Notts lose in last ball thriller
By Danny Williams
June 21 2003
In the Twenty/20 cup, Notts lost to Leicestershire in a tight game at Trent Bridge. Franks won the toss and elected to bat. Gallian and Welton got off to a rapid start, before Gallian fell for 8.

Afzaal played sensibly for his 16. When Pietersen came in he blasted 21 off 11 with 2 sixes, but was out trying to reverse sweep Snape.

Welton batted well and scored 35. Franks and Patel gave Notts a defendable total of 158. The pick of the bowlers was Indian Sehwag whose figures where 4-0-19-2.

Sehwag and Stevens opened the batting for Leicestershire. Stevens was caught out, a magnificent catch from Samit Patel. Sehwag went for his shots scoring 26 off 16 with 1 massive six, but was caught well by MacGill.

Darren Maddy came in and batted superbly for his 53 runs from just 32 balls, but when he was out the away team struggled losing 5 wickets in quick succession, leaving them at 150-9 with number 9 and number 11 at the crease. They needed 9 from 8 balls. MacGill was to bowl the last over. The crowd thought they would win, but they took the singles and got 2 twos and got the winning run off the last ball.

Later Darren Maddy was voted man of the match for his performance. Notts now are unable to reach the later stages.
