Miserly Clark puts Belvoir II in record books
By Dennis Wright
July 28 2003
Belvoir II made their first entry into the Gunn & Moore record books in a big way with Simon Clark taking NINE of Balderton II wickets for a miserly FIVE runs. It is the 2nd 9wkt haul in two weeks and the 3rd of the season following on from Simon Silverwood’s 9/10 previous record.

Clark bowled ten overs that included seven maidens as Balderton managed a poultry 36; not surprisingly Belvoir II won by 10 wkts.

Keyworth produced the lowest total of the day as they were skittled out for 25, Stefan Boss 6/18 & Tim Taylor 4/7 conceded the runs but claimed all the wickets. It took Wilsons just 12 balls to record their 7th win to maintain a push for a top 2 position.

Newstead Abbey Village took advantage of Stanton-by-Dale’s small ground by smashing the days highest total of 311/8 with Andrew Graham making 125. Umar Hassan scored the day’s individual best (157*) for Long Eaton (240/5 dec) as they had the luxury of declaring at home to Gotham Village, Hassan then took 4/60 but poor light ruined his day as the match was abandoned.

The rain and late evening bad light spoilt a number of clashes, none more so than Gedling Colliery (78/0) who were cruising to victory over Eastwood Town (127) before rain intervened in 1A. Balderton, (163/5) were the only winners in the division beating Loughborough Carillon (162/6) on the back of an outstanding performance from Malinda Warnapaura 92 and 4/37. Attenborough (66/8) suffered at the hands of Radcliffe on Trent (219/7) in a draw that sees Balderton leap frog Attenborough out of the relegation places.

Majid Saeed (83) was in the runs again at home to ten men Gedling Sherwood (94/3 after 33ov) who were further reduced when one of their players damaged finger catching Saeed. Unfortunately the rain interfered with Notts Amateurs’ (200/7) effort to produce a win.

Rolls Royce (153) slipped to defeat at Hucknall (154/3) and slipped out of the promotion places as Newstead moved in. Nottingham (99/4) improved their chances of survival with a 6wkt win against nearest placed Belvoir (98).

1C is one of the closest fought divisions that will have to go to the final game as all teams struggle to put together that winning run to bring them promotion. Ellerslie (102/2), having been top recently are fighting back winning at West Bridgfordians (101/9), whilst Newark (133/2) beat Old Paviors (128) to maintain the advantage. Leaders Thrumpton fell to the weather as their game was wiped out on Friday.

Lady Bay Boots (220/4) scored at 5.5 runs an over away at Toton Sycamore (189/9) in this reduced over match. They are timing their run for promotion to perfection as another win moves them within 0.3 of a point of leaders Hickling. Beeston (130/9) were the only other team to complete a victory beating Whatton (129/9) by 1wkt in a tense finish.

1F saw a result in all 5 games as 1st leaders Snibston Grange (101/7) trounced West Bridgford (100) with Mark Eyres recording the day’s best 1st XI bowling figures of 8/38. Cotgrave (145/8) maintain 2nd place having comfortably disposed of East Bridgford (80). There were also wins for Epperstone and Kinoulton who maintain outside hopes of promotion, Edingley were the division’s other winners, pushing well clear of the relegation zone.

Rainworth Welfare (82/4) had a far easier day than anticipated at home to Stapleford (81) and could be the first to secure a top two spot with a win next week. Gladstone (154/5) are the other team dominating this division securing a tenth win away at Lambley (153/6). There was a top-of-the-table clash in 1H as ten men Lenton Abbey (97/7) chased Carrington Cavaliers’ lowly 96. As a result, Cavaliers drop behind Lenton in the table.

In 2A Joe Dove hit a crisp 50*, including 4 consecutive sixes in the last over for Plumtree II (234/6) at home to Southwell II (181/8). The biggest shock of the day came in 2B where leaders Gedling Colliery II (92) where torn apart by Eastwood Town (168/6) who have now moved off the bottom, Jambrose Rowley 4/19 and Naylor 54* the heroes.

Lady Bay Boots bounced back to winning ways and bounced back into 2nd place beating Nottingham II (149) by 21 runs. 15 yrs old Mark Addison (60) led Risley II to only their 2nd win over Kirkby Portland (190/9). Attenborough III (158/6) march on (and on) as they produced win number 12 of the season against West Bridgfordians II (65). A tight finish between Ruddington II (122) and Whatton II (115) saw Ruddington hold their nerve to win by 7 runs.
