Watched on by his family he surpassed his previous best ever score of 50 to the delight of all, his Nanna remarking that she would have to double his reward to a tenner. Not far behind was Phil Gregory, who scored 144, in a losing chase for Stanton-by-Dale II (253) in a match in which there was a century for both sides; Goodchild getting 119 for Brett Loughborough Carillon II (278/4). In 2g there was a first ever century for David Pitchfork of Edingley II (180/4) who hit a match winning 109* against Toton Sycamore II (175). In 2C there were no fewer than 4 centurions, a record for one division. Bowling performances were few and far between on the batting tracks so Muntaz Sultan’s (8/46) demolition of Nuthall in 1D was without doubt pushing Luke Marshall for the day’s best performance. Martin Huffer (4/4) took the only hat-trick of the day away at Caythorpe IV for Beeston II. Malinda Warnapura (114*) was the only century-maker in 1A, complimenting team-mate David Lynn’s performance with the ball (6/38) as he steered Balderton (165/2) past Eastwood Town’s 163. 16 year old Tim Clipsham also contributed, taking 3 wickets for 15 and then scoring 37. Eastwood are deep in relegation trouble especially as Gotham Village are showing promising signs of recovery. Gotham (223/8) got maximum winning draw points at home to Radcliffe-on-Trent. Top-of-the table Calverton made it hot work for fielding side Attenborough, putting on 294/5 in their 48 overs. Mike Sewell (88) and Derek Pickering (68) doing much of the damage. After scoring 49, David Fraser-Darling went on to take 4 of Attenborough’s wickets. Ben Sheppard (44) and Sam Clulow (47) showed some resistance but Attenborough finished on 178/5 for a losing draw. There was just 0.3 points gap between Gedling Colliery and Plumtree before their match on Saturday. Plumtree came out worst, being bowled out for 155, thanks in part to Steve Burton (5/51). Gedling passed the target with the loss of two wickets and Graham Burton on 53* and Humaj Gondahl on 65*. This realistically leaves the title as a two-horse race between Gedling & Calverton, but with the winning post in sight, Calverton are clear favourites Notts Amateurs (171/8) came unstuck against Bottesford (220/7) in 1B, taking a losing draw as Bottesford’s Keith Tate plundered 119. Gedling & Sherwood (118) were pointless in their loss to Newstead Abbey & Village who knocked off the runs with two wickets down to maintain their own hopes of promotion but with Rolls Royce beating Bramcote they share the promotion place. Bramcote racked up 226/5, with Norman Jowett contributing 111*; a total Rolls Royce Leisure (229/7) passed thanks largely to Tony Coupe 96 and Tony Betteridge (50). There were two 5 wicket hauls in the match between Nottingham (176/8) and Hucknall (179/6), Nottingham’s was courtesy of Ben Tebbutt (5/55) and Hucknall’s from Kevin Pearson (5/91). In 1C, Risley slipped back into the relegation zone they managed only 126 in reply to Newark (199/7), while Old Paviors (277/7) who moved up the table, managed a win against Wilsons (195). Nasser Hussain may have struggled in the last test match but he produced a creditable 31* and 3/27 for West Bridgfordians (173/7) in their victory over Kirkby Portland (105). Jonathan Marsh also contributed 73 for the winning side. Thrumpton (142) lost their spot at the top of 1C and slip out of the promotional places, losing away to Ellerslie (158) who benefited from the bowling of 15 year old Daniel Footitt (5/41). The top two teams in 1D kept their places as Hickling (166) proved too much for struggling Toton Sycamore (89) and Lady Bay Boots (244/6) bowled Nuthall out for 127. Lady Bay’s Muntaz Sultan took 8/46, after Darren Wright (71) and Bryn Gunn (49) had put on the runs. Another Wright in the runs was Chris, who scored 113 for Lowdham (221) in their 1E clash with Willoughby-on-the-Wolds (196). Andrew Wright, meanwhile, scored 76 for East Bridgford (187) in 1F as they beat Bestwood Village (179). 1G leaders Rainworth Welfare have all but sewn up the champions spot after first beating Hucknall TA (107) by 8wkts and then hearing that their only rivals Gladstone recovered from 30/7 to post 114 but still lost by 8wkts to Oxton. 2nd XI Clifton Village II have rocked over the last few weeks but recorded a comfortable win over Hucknall II to maintain their prospect of a first and last 2nd XI championship. With all the teams thrown in to a one-league structure next year it will be interesting to see how these club fair against first XI opposition. Wollaton II (194), after winning 2B last season, are 2nd after another win this time away at Radcliffe on Trent II (160). Good news for the most talked about team on the internet, Eastwood Town (119/3) as their 2nd XI recorded another victory, this one over Nottingham II (118). Gedling Colliery II (185/7) easily beat Ellerslie (136) to maintain top position however Lady Bay Boots and Gedling Sherwood share the 2nd promotion place after Lady Bay could only gain 4pts in a losing draw to Long Eaton and Gedling and Sherwood passed Gotham’s 232 in a match of two centuries. 15yr old Sam Cliff (49*) was unable to keep Thurgarton’s promotion challenge going as they slipped to defeat by 75 runs at home to Caythorpe III. Bramcote II (264/5), with Mel Wood hitting his 3rd century of the season (126) closed in on them after beating Rolls Royce II (138/8), 12 yr old Tom Carlise taking 2/35. Phil Sinagra scored his 1st ever 50 in his last game as he returns to Australia, but it still wasn’t enough for Willoughby (153) who went down to Balderton II (195/7). In 2F Wilsons, Beeston and long Whatton are unchanged in the top 3 places
as all 3 won. In 2G Snibston Grange II are promoted and with a three point
gap over Plumtree III (161/7) after their loss to Clifton III (162/2)
it seems a certainty that they will win the 2G champions trophy. 2nd spot
could not be tighter now as Cotgrave (145/3) beat Long Eaton III (144)
to join Plumtree and Clifton. |
