Thoresby Colliery lift Tomlin Trophy
By Paul Barker
August 25 2003
After a two year reign the tenure that Mansfield Hosiery Mills held on the Tomlin Trophy is finally over. In a high scoring thriller at Huthwaite Road, they finally succumbed to a Thoresby Colliery side that played at the peak of their powers to register a 53 run win.

Batting first Thoresby piled up an enormous 40 over total before being bowled out for 266 with Martin Cheshire refreshed from his holidays making a magnificent 102. The elegant left hander crashed the ball to all parts of the ground and with run machine Paul Hughes (50) also in good form Thoresby built up a massive total.

Jonathan Best (3 for 38), Nolan McKenzie (3 for 46) and Darren Johnson (3 for 76) all bowled well but their was no stopping the Thoresby express as runs piled up at just under seven an over for the entire innings.

Hosiery Mills though are not Trophy holders for nothing, and they set about their task in great style before being bowled out for a creditable 213. Jonathan Best (43) and Nolan McKenzie (40) both added batting honours to their bowling exploits, but it was never going to be quite enough and Thoresby deservedly cruised through to the final.

David Evans bowled quite brilliantly to take 5 for 52 and Thoresby will now meet the winners of next week’s tie between Cutthorpe and Farnsfield at Central Avenue, Worksop on Sunday 14th September.
