Chesterfield Cricket Club Inaugural Sporting Lunch

Geoff Miller

November 12 2002
Chesterfield Cricket Club have announced details of their inaugural Sporting Lunch, to be held on Friday 13th December 2002 at the Ringwood Hall Hotel Chesterfield.

Guest speaker for the event is Geoff Miller, who had a very successful playing career with Derbyshire, Essex and England and is now acknowledged as one of the finest sports speakers on the circuit. Miller spent 20 years on the cricket circuit playing against some of the greatest players in the game.

He was once quoted as saying: "I was a comparatively boring bread and butter cricketer who was only selected in the team to allow all the brilliant flair players to perform with freedom".

He played in 34 Test matches, 25 One Day Internationals, 7 overseas tours and scored over 14,000 runs. He also took over 1,000 wickets and held over 300 catches - not bad for a 'bread and butter player'!

Geoff is in great demand for his dry Northern humour and his uncanny talent for making people laugh. As Ian Botham’s ex-room-mate for five years, he has a few funny stories to tell about that!

Tickets for the event cost a mere £20, and early booking is advised for what the club envisage to be a very popular event. Guests are asked to meet at the hotel at 12:00 noon for a 12:30 start.

To obtain your tickets or for more information, contact David Adams on 07711 496649 or David Drabble on 01246 416145.

Andy BrownMeanwhile, Chesterfield have appointed Andy Brown (pictured right) as its first Director of Youth and Cricket Development. Club captain Adams told Sting In The Tail:

"There was stiff competition for this role but the club feels that Andy has both the experience and ability to implement the plans the club have devised to develop cricket from grass roots to premier league level. This appointment is a further step in Chesterfield Cricket Club's desire to offer the highest standard of facilities in the Premier and County Leagues for all ages and standards of cricket."
