Adrian Pierson announced as Derbyshire coach

Adrian Pierson
By Alan Rowley
January 12 2003
Derbyshire Cricket Club have announced that Adrian Pierson is to be their first team coach for the 2003 season. Pierson, joined the club during the 2000/2001 close season to replace Andrew Brown as assistant coach when Brown's contract was not renewed at the end of the 2000 season.

An off-spinner and batsman, 39 year old Pierson is a real team man whose chief role over the last two seasons has been to liaise with county development manager Colin Davis in setting up scouting and coaching networks. A regular visitor to Premier and County League matches, Pierson has built up a strong relationship with club and county cricketers alike.

Karl Krikken at owzatPierson takes over from Colin Wells, whose abrupt departure in August 2002 was hardly suprising to County Ground regulars after many behind the scenes disagreements with skipper Dominic Cork. A former Somerset, Warwickshire and Leicestershire player, Pierson "is keen to extend his coaching experience as he completes his Grade Four coaching qualification".

Karl Krikken, pictured right, takes over the role of second team coach, but will continue to be available as first team wicketkeeper. Krikken, who celebrated his benefit year in 2002, is well-respected on the club circuit and his wealth of experience will be an invaluable asset to the young, up and coming second teamers.

Pierson's predecessor, Andy Brown, meanwhile, starts the 2003 season as Chesterfield's first Director of Youth and Cricket Development. Brown's role is to develop cricket from grass roots to Premier League level.
