Three way battle opens up in Division Three

A three way battle is opening up at the top of Division 3. Centralians II hold on to top spot by virtue of a winning draw against bottom side Millhouses II. Cents scored 178-8 (Behan 40, Kennedy 47, Searle 4-40) but Dunkley (52 no) and Hargreaves (42) guided the strugglers to safety at 121-5.

University Staff II are five points off the lead thanks to victory over De La Salle II. De La Salle were bowled out for 117 (A.Brennan 47 no, N.Khan 6-45) which Staff passed with three wickets in hand. Calver moved ominously into third place with two games in hand on the top two. Doug Howie's 131 no allowed Calver to declare at 246-4 and they then dismissed Laycocks for 111.

Hundall II totalled an impressive 255-4 with Ian Bayston scoring 102 no and Steven Bayston falling one short of a century on 99. They then bowled Dronfield Woodhouse II out for 142. Calow benefitted from a forfeited match by Dronfield Sports II.

Stanton In Peak moved back into second place in Division One with victory over Centralians. They posted 199-6 and bowled out the Sheffield side for just 90. Cents capped a bad weekend when they went down by nine wickets on Sunday against Old Edwardians / Collegiate having scored 123-8. A series of impressive first innings totals has seen Parkhead creep up the table into third. This week they registered 258-7 declared (Bowers 107, Seal 4-110) against Old Edwardians / Collegiate, who attained the draw at 178-5 (Layer 82 no).

De La Salle declared at 219-6 with James Hartley knocking 124. University Staff held out for the draw at 150-8. Oliver Campbell's 70 not out allowed Baslow to reach 146-9 against Hathersage. who were dismissed for 95 with Michael Clegg taking 4-23.

Stocksbridge gained the upper hand in the bottom of the table clash with Sheffield Works Department. Works were bowled out for 152 (Chris Siddall 4-42) which Stocksbridge passed for the loss of six wickets. Hundall remain division leaders due to a forfeited match against Dronfield Woodhouse.

Holmesfield held on to top place in Division Two with a win away at Bakewell. Bakewell made 130-8, which was passed by Holmesfield for the loss of three wickets with Jim Pearson making an unbeaten 75. Ashford In The Water kept up their challenge with victory against Millhouses in the final over. Ashford posted 161-6 and sent back Millhouses for 142 (Hussain 46, Wilson 7-40).

In the shock result of the day, Chesterfield Barbarians were bowled out for 152 (Bingley 5-51) by early pacesetters Grindleford, who were promptly skittled for just 54 thanks to Craig Bradbury (4-20) and Martin Roberts (5-4). Stocksbridge II scored 125-7, which was passed by Parkhead II with exactly the same number of wickets down.

Richland Wanderers opened up a fourteen point gap at the top of Division Four with victory at home to Zingari. Zingari were restricted to 92-9 from their allocation, which the Chesterfield-based Wanderers passed with three wickets to spare. BT Pensions / AGD I gained the upper hand in their second versus third clash with Ridgeway. Pensions made 153-6 and dismissed Ridgeway eight runs short of their own total despite 51 from Lee Keys.

A shock looked possible when Baslow II were dismissed for 118 at Stocksbridge III (Adrian Von Wurzbach 5-41, Mark Wingfield 5-48) but the fourth placed side rolled over the home team for just 30 (Hadfield 4-8, Shaw 5-5). Coal Aston's 117-6 saw them overhaul Great Longstone's 111 all out. Transport were dismissed for 127 by Calow II (Devine 4-41, Simms 5-26). Garth Lewis (6-38) then bowled the home side to a 52 run victory.
