Durham collapse gives Glamorgan easy win

More wickets
By Ananova August 17 2002
Glamorgan wrapped up an emphatic 10-wicket victory in the Frizzell County Championship at Durham inside just two days, with the help of Mike Kasprowicz.
The day began with Durham finishing off the Glamorgan first innings with the addition of 37 more runs for the last two wickets to take them to 233. Mark Davies finished with five for 61.

Mike Kasprowicz then took five for 58 and Robert Croft four for 20 as the visitors bowled Durham out for just 114 in their second innings in 38 overs.

That meant Glamorgan required just five for victory, which openers Steve James and Ian Thomas knocked off without a problem.

With a 109-run deficit from the first innings and having made only 124 first time around, the Durham batsman had come to the wicket under pressure.

Durham openers Michael Gough and Gary Pratt put on 77 for the first wicket at nearly four an over before Pratt went in the last over before lunch, adjudged lbw to Darren Thomas for 35, sending the hosts in at 78 for one at the break.

In the second over after lunch Gough also departed, edging a good length ball from Kasprowicz to Matthew Maynard in the slips for 37.

The Aussie paceman then ripped through the Durham middle order, bowling Ashley Thorpe offering no shot for five, having Nicky Peng caught behind by Mark Wallace for 11 and two balls later repeating the trick to send Ian Pattison packing without scoring.

Three balls later Danny Law also went without scoring, Maynard taking the catch this time, to give Kasprowicz his third wicket of the over.

Robert Croft had been bowling a testing spell at the other end and he completed the job Kasprowicz had started by mopping up the tail.
