Australia retain the ashes

England lose ashes
By Sam Hathaway December 18 2006
A extremely disappointing series just got worse for England fans as the news is sinking in that we have lost the ashes after only having them back for over a year. It was always a tough ask on the last day but the aussies beat us by 206 runs.

Australia have recaptured the ashes after bowling England out for 350 on the last day of this Perth test to lead the series 3-0 meaning no way back for England.

Shane Warne took 4 wickets to sink England while this meant his number of test career wickets stands at 699.

Kevin Pietersen was the last man standing for England and his 60 didn't do much to help as the rest of the team folded under his eyes.

The only other decent batsman was captain Freddie who made 64 off 51 balls before being bowled by Warne.

Geraint Jones disappointed with the bat by getting out for a duck having been run out by quick thinking Ponting.

By now the score was 336-7 and winning the ashes last time around seemed like a distant memory as the title was slipping out of their hands.

Sajid Mahmood lasted 10 balls and got out LBW to Stuart Clarke and then Harmison fell in the same way.

Monty survived till lunch but later fell, bowled, by the brilliant Warne to wrap up the ashes to secure it going into the last two tests.

If only we could go back a year to the brilliant display we put forward but all credit to the aussies in this series as they truly are the best team in the world.
