Last chance to shine before the big one
By Tom Bason
March 8 2007
Tomorrow’s final warm-up match before the World Cup is more than just a friendly. Not only is it against an Australian side baying for revenge having lost their previous 3 ODI's with England, including the CB Trophy final, but it is a final chance for England’s four seamers to shine.

All of Saj Mahmood, Jon Lewis, Jimmy Anderson and Liam Plunkett are in good form, and all are expected to take some part in tomorrows match, all fighting for a place to face New Zealand on 16th March.  Lewis and Anderson both appeared to have their grips on the coveted spots, but injury’s allowed Plunkett and Mahmood second chances, and both have grabbed it with both hands.  Unfortunately, this means that it is unlikely that Jamie Dalrymple will get any more bowling overs before the tournament itself, with both Freddy Flintoff and Monty Panesar also looking to bowl a couple of overs.  At the top of the order, it is possible that Andrew Strauss will return to the team in order to play himself back into contention, but it is looking increasingly likely that Ed Joyce and Michael Vaughan will open the batting in St. Lucia

England Poll

With recent poor performances from Vaughan and Flintoff, should they be dropped?
