From Derek Brown - the current Chairman
"We have a day of First Class crficket in Bath in 2008 against Gloucestershire in the Friends Provident 50 overs competition.
Somerset CCC was delighted with the outcome of last year's game with Surrey, in both aspects, cricket and financial. A perfect day and a crowd of 3500 was termendously heartening and showed the level of support for cricket in Bath.
The club is providing 2 more stands and total seating for 5000 for this year's match.
Refreshment facitlities will also be expanded. Richard Gould, Chief Executive, Somerset CCC has prepared a report on the club's requirements for a viable Cricket Festival in Bath. This will be preented to the Bath and Wilts Area Committee and the Friends representatives. It is hoped that from this a clear decision on the future of first class cricket in Bath can be made.
There will be a Friends' enclosure and tent at the match this year. It will be situated on the Rugby pitch isde of the ground and near the gate for vehicles from Pulteney Street.
We will have our usual activities ie. quiz, cakes, stalls, guess the score.
In view of the current one day format for Cricket at Bath the committee will propose a reduction in membership fees to £3 for 1 Year and £8 for 3 years.
Please support the day. A successful day will strengthen the case for the return to a full festival"

Sylvia Appleyard
Sylvia died in September after bravely battling for two years with a brain tumour and various infections.

She and Robert were founder members of the Friends in 1987. They were inseprable from the Bath Festival. Their wedding reception in 1988 was on the Rec during the Festival. Where else?
She was a Bath and Wilts Area representative on the SCCC Management Committee for 4 years succeeding Bob Doel
Sylvie was a tenacious and coourageous lady. She was well known to many cricket lovers......Her funeral at bathford filled the church with people from many parts of the country. A fitting tribute to a wonderfully warm and popular friend
Bob Doel
Bob died in December aged 81. He had been on dialysis for a kidney condition for many years.
He was a stalwart supporter of County Cricket in Bath and made a massive contribution to its continuance.
He organnised the setting up and logistics of the Rec for many years. This was a vital task to which he gave himself unsparingly and which he accomplished very capably over a long period. His succesor was the late Robert Appleyard.
Together with Robert he represented the Bath and Wilts Area of Somerset CCC on the Club's Management Committee.
It was in recognition of his great service to the Bath Festival that the Friends made him a Life Vice President in 2003.
