SUSSEX CC1 @ HOVE 24 APRIL 2002

The rain of Friday put this game to bed really. With nearly 400 on the board from the first innings and then a reply of just over 400 by us, the only thing that would make a game of it was a batting collapse or bowling brilliance on Day 4.  Well we got Goodwin out early thanks to Keith Parsons who was called into the attack because of the injury to Steffan Jones (hamstring) but when Motgomerie went with the score on 90 it didn't look promising.

After a century by Chris Adams and 73 and 86 by Yardy and Martin-Jenkins it was going to be uphill to make a victory out of it.  Adams declared at 396 and gave us 40 overs to get 333 in.  We made 92 in 32 and called it a day.  Draw number one and the honours probably go to Sussex for not letting Surrey get them down.  They've taken point off one of the media's contenders and we are now playing catch-up.

Best Batsman= by 3 runs overall!! Jamie Cox (105) just pipping Peter Bowler

Best Bowler  = by 2 wickets Matt Bulbeck (6 wickets) with Richard Johnson and surprisingly Michael Burns came in joint second with 4

Result = in case you haven't guessed it....a draw.

This means we have the first clean sweep of the league's history and it comes from......(fanfare).......ME!!!

This will not be a regular occurance and neither will draws away from home I hope.

NEXT MATCH? - B&H season starts with WARWICKSHIRE @ Edgbaston on Sunday.   Predictions to me by mail before 10am on the 28th
