v New Zealand @ Taunton 2 September 2004
What info I can find will be on here about 4:00...you'll just have to wait. Last info I had was that NZ were 119 for 4!....
Ten overs, 6 for 30 - enter Mike Parsons to the world of international cricket! A good morning for all it seems, good batting by NZ Cairns made 108 and put on a few with Hamish Marshall. Arul Suppiah took some hammer while Andrew, Blackwell and Parsons K took a wicket each. Burns took 4 catches, without the glove's on. You may hear that Blackie dropped a catch but it seems to have been difficult and Fleming was out next ball anyway.
They made 275 in 48.5. Our reply saw Frank J and Gazza opening but wickets went quickly. JF was out for 1 then Cox gave a 1st ball catch. Gazzard went for 9 and Blackwellwent next ball - but that was for 48, he had most of the strike. Woody went at 87 LBW for 7 and we're 91 for 5 after 20. Burns and KP in on 19 and 4.
Not for long though as Burns is bowled for 20 and it's 95 for 6. Arul Suppiah comes to sort it out...and is caught behind for 0 at 96.
Laraman gone at "Nelson" and it's all come apart. Gareth Andrew arrives with victory a distant impossibility and 23 overs to face! They have a bit of a fight and get to 136 before Andrew goes for 7 caught in the deep. KP is going to be left high and dry with MP as the last man Vettori finishes with 3 for 36, and Parsons hit him for half of them!
Keith takes us to 150 with a boundary and himself to 48 with another ...before passing 50 with a third (59 balls 1 six and 9 fours). At 58 he skies one and we lose by 105 runs. All over with 10.3 overs to go.
Good performances by the young bowling attack keeping one of the best one day outfits to 5 an over. BUT we need to sort out a batting order that can handle this type of bowling. Not as impressive.
Seconds game - Friday
NZ did better getting 310 but the combined seconds are also doing better with 180 for 4 off 39 overs. For those of you wondering, the players wore their own kit, maroon or blue.
The 200 came up with 6 to go and KP passed 100 (111 balls with one 6 and ten 4's ) off Styris at 213 with a mere 97 left to get off 5. He finally went for 105 at 221 bringing Gazzard out who sees it through to the close - 241 for 5 losing by 69 runs.
A number of people there seemed to want to know what Keith really needed to do to get a regular first team berth On the basis of today's batting performance, you really do need to ask, two games, two big scores against quality opposition and he's still in the wilderness!
Seconds combined side
Edwards, Windows, Suppiah, Pearson, Parsons, Hardinges, Gazzard, Snell, Andrew, Bressington and Sillence.
