LANCASHIRE manager Mike Watkinson has spoke of his delight after Lancashire Lightning's five wicket win over Northants Steelbacks in the Natwest Pro40 Division One clash.
Watkinson believes his side did well dispite Lancashire missing a weeks worth of cricket due to the persistant rain in and around the country. The Lancs gaffer had this to say:
“We played some very good cricket, and we played some ordinary cricket,” said cricket manager Mike Watkinson, speaking to the Official website.
“The lack of play showed through in the field. We put a couple of chances down, and one or two wides too many.”
The worst offender was Muttiah Muralitharan who dropped Riki Wessels' simple chip back towards him. Muralitharan seemed to misjudge the speed of the ball coming back at him, as he seemed to react very late, and after a brief juggle with the ball it crashed to the ground. Glen Chapple and Stuart Law also dropped catches.
“But that is probably not surprising with the lack of cricket that we have had." Watkinson continued.
"We were also a little disappointed to lose three or four wickets at a crucial stage when we looked to have broken the back of the total and should have been cruising home.”
“At the end of the day there was no damage, and we can come away and reflect on the game, and the things we can do better with".
