Lancashire -v- Sri Lanka 'A'

Lancashire CCC
By Martyn Robinson July 29 2007
PRE-MATCH report as Lancashire take on Sri Lanka 'A' at Liverpool. Manager Mike Watkinson is set to name a very strong side for the game, after admitting that the recent weather conditions have left key members of his squad lacking match practice....

Lancashire only managed to take to the field in one day of two matches against Worcester and Cheltenham and with Tuesday hosting the Liverpool Victoria County Championship game with Sussex, time in the middle is vital.

Of course next Saturday plays host to the Twenty-20 Cup Finals day at Edgbaston so batting and bowling time is vital for Lancashire.

Red Rose manager Watkinson had this to say:

“We have got one or two little injuries that we have picked up over the last day or two, and they will obviously be rested,” he said speaking to the Official site.

“But a good number of the people who will be playing against Sussex next week will play on Sunday.”

Also, the big hitter from Preston is ready to return to first team action after yet another ankle operation. Yes, you know who it is... It's Andrew 'Freddy' Flintoff, and just in time for the Twenty-20 Cup final, weather he will play or not remains to be seen though.

“It is a game in which he can play just as a batsman – in the same way as he was going to do in the second team,” continued Watkinson.
