Pistol Pete's Prize Christmas 2007 Quiz

THE PRIZE!!
By Pistol Pete December 21 2007
Pistol Pete has produced a corker of a Christmas Quiz. There's a great prize - My Turn To Spin by Shaun Udal, gnerously donated by the publishers, Know The Score Books. There's also lots of fun to be had, so enjoy yourselves pondering these superb questions. LAST CHANCE TO ENTER - REMEMBER THIS GAME CLOSES AT 20:00 ON 8 JANUARY 2008!!

PISTOL PETE'S CHRISTMAS QUIZ

Pistol Pete has very kindly concocted a superb quiz to keep

you all entertained over the Christmas break.  Set that

unenviable task of writing a quiz that cannot be solved with a

few simple Google queries, Pete has come up with a genuinely

fun and interesting quiz.

Publishers "Know the Score Books" were so taken with

Loverboy's review of "My Turn To Spin" by Shaun Udal, they

have very generously donated a copy of the book as this year's

Christmas Quiz prize.  So there's more than just pride and fun to

play for.

Points will be scored as indicated, but bonus points will be

available for those who come up with alternative answers in the

unlikely event that they are equally correct and/or more correct

than Pistol Pete's answers.

I am the only moderator who has seen the questions and

answers, so this game is open to everyone other than me and

Pistol Pete.  For that reason, please submit your answers directly

 to me at:

gedladd@hotmail.co.uk

Great effort Pete,I've got plenty of copies of the book already, and one's definitely a gift from me to you.
I know you're not to keen on shelling out for new books. I'll leave it to others to compete for this one .
COM PETE -Thats what we should call this thread. How come you never thought of that one Ged?

Not sure bout anyone else but I have had a go at this and it's not easy. Only a few questions you can use various Internet Search engines to get clues and others require in depth knowledge which I haven't got. My hope to win is my entry will be a few who equally struggled and our resident anorak JC67 is to wrapped up in Yes/No game to have a go. On the other hand, I think this quiz is worthy of a wide audience.

Certainly tough but certainly worth a go.

50% might well be a prize-winning score given the difficulty of the questions and the absence of Pistol Pete (Game Lord) and Loverboy (sitting out cos he has the book already).

On reflection, perhaps even 40% will claim the treasure.

Maybe!

So far no entries, so at the moment one correct answer would be in pole position.

I expect to complete mine middle of next week somtime.

This is an excellent quiz but is easy to put down and do something else easier like study rocket science.

I,ve actually got over 50% without reference to search engines and points of reference which Pete directs us clearly too,
I thought it prudent not to COM PETE,so as to give others a chance, not really because I,ve read the book.
Pete found the questions so the least you lot can do is make an effort to find the answers rather than talking down the likely victory target.
People are hardly encouraged to produce features, articles.quizzes etc.if no one is going to participate or join in.
We all have a responsibility to give as much as we take from this site, and I think that for the moderators themselves to comment as they do is not going to inspire others, and sets the worst possible example.
So,Ged back to the doghouse with your computer, piles of books
a few goose and capon sarnies, and stay there until you,ve done all you can,and take the boozy boy Kev and a bottle or two with you.
Get to it you lazy lot and stop moaning.
Too difficult indeed ,poppycock!

Here's a quickie for Pete and everyone, and a little pressie for the right answer within 48 hours.
Name the ex-Surrey player who returned to First-class cricket in 2007 after a gap of 13 years?

Regarding the prize quiz, I can see from the stats that a great many of you are taking a look at the quiz. I hope that a good few of you will have a go.

Ignoring the heckling from the sidelines about lack of ambition - it is a really hard quiz and I suspect the winner will achieve their win with a relatively low score, so it really is worth having a go if you think you are able to answer some of the questions.

Loverboy - your question above seems to have died a death, so perhaps you can tell us the answer. And why don't you have a go at the prize quiz for fun, even though you don't want to play for the prize. It would be interesting to see if you are able to beat the best of the contestants for the prize. Otherwise it might come across like all talk, mightn't it?

Over a week still to go folks, with stumps on this one being drawn at 20:00 GMT on 8 January.

I,m happy for you all to consider me ''all talk''for I see no reason to spend time and effort digging out the answers, which would prove nothing except give you the opportunity to accuse me of some other misdemeanour such as showing off my vast knowledge, which you've brought up in the past.
As a compromise webmeister, why not select the dozen or so questions you regard as the most fiendish, and I'll have a go at them if it'll make you happier.
I'll leave the question of the surrey player a bit longer if it's all thre same to you.
I wasn't ''heckling'' Ged as you know,my point is Pete has obviously spent much time and effort in preparing this quiz in response to your constant pleading for articles and editorial. So why should he bother,or any one else for that matter if no one has even the coutesy to attempt to answer.
Pete is the one of the most gentle, kindly and generous people it's my pleasure to know, and if he'd have asked me if it was worth the trouble I'd have told him ''don't bother'',so all I,m saying is prove me wrong.

LAST CHANCE TO ENTER - REMEMBER THIS GAME CLOSES AT 20:00 ON 8 JANUARY 2008!!

If you can answer a few of the questions it is worth your while submitting a response - the quiz is really hard so we expect the winner to succeed with a relatively low score.

Questions for which we receive no correct answers will become the subject of some individual "does anybody know" games on the board throughout the rest of the closed season, to keep the fun going.

Meanwhile, there is a prize up for grabs and you need to be in it to win it!
