Best of Quizzes, Worst of Quizzes - Xmas 2007

Deserving of this?
By Ged January 13 2008
It was the best of quizzes, it was the worst of quizzes. Find out what we mean by that. Also, learn all about the outcome of the Xmas 2007 Quiz and the follow up fun we have planned with the superb material that formed the centre piece of this most unusual contest.

It was the best of quizzes

Hundreds upon hundreds of people looked at the Christmas quiz this year.  In December alone, just shy of 600 people.  In January several hundred more.  While some of those people will be coming back for a second look, I think we can take it that hundreds of people took an interest.

It really is a fiendish quiz too.  Many people wrote in to say that they were finding it very difficult and tried to gauge the sort of score that might win.

Ged originally supposed 40% to 50% would win the game, but then revised his estimate downwards to 25%.

It was the worst of quizzes

In fact, only one person was brave enough to submit their wild guesses to scrutiny.  And wild were most of those guesses.  Indeed, the winning submission achieved a modest 5 out of 50 - 10%.

And the Winner Is

Barmy Kev.  Many congratulations to him.  He takes the prize - the well received book My Turn To Spin by rookie (in Middlesex terms) Shaun Udal.  Kev also salavages what little glory you can from such a win.  As Kev says, "you have to be in it to win it".

But the Game Is Not Over

Given the enormous interest and yet  poor response, Pistol Pete (your quizmaster) and I have agreed that the questions will be trickled out over the rest of the winter for a more collaborative sort of game on the message board.

And Pistol Pete is undeterred by the response.  He says that he had great fun researching the quiz and will try to come up with something for next year that will induce a more substantial response.  What a great attitude.  Pistol Pete, you are truly MTWD.  And so of course is our winner, Barmy Kev.

Surprised I got as many as I did., but even more surprised too win, given mine was a token gesture. Should always back myself in a 1 horse race.

Barmy Kev
I only need 10%.

To be honest, Kev, it was a close run thing even with only the one horse.
