HD gives Leicester a better picture

Amazing grACE
By Barmy Paul April 19 2008
After complete Disgrace Road episode of day 2, Barmy Paul reports on some improvement on day 3. We took some quick wickets, homesickness was not a problem after a pie. But for some HD interference our vision for victory would be clearer. Read on

Pre Match Optimism- (Perhaps yesterday wasn’t so bad after all)

I arrived at the ground at 10.00. Conditions overcast, my Ever Ready batteries recharged after yesterdays mass disappointment. I saw the players warming up and I was much more impressed than yesterday’s body language during warm up. They seemed to be a lot more organised and more up for it, given challenge ahead. Our boys came out with a buzz, which gave me optimism. Let’s hope for an early break through. Middlesex la la la

 Bad HD Vision from umpire

What all Middx fans wanted, we have an early break through, Silvers gets New caught by Nash. Just what we deserved, after first few overs of pressure. This brings Du Toit (a name to conjure with) to the crease, who is quickly sent back for 9, caught Nash bowled Finn. Allenby then comes and quickly out bowled Finn, again caught Nash! Was I dreaming is this the same attack from yesterday? Middx players really buzzing, with one of them shouting out to HD “Lets push him into retirement boys he is old enough to be Billy’s granddad let alone dad.” Leicester bring up there 300 with a streaky edge from HD. Next ball Middx players had screamed for what seemed like a plum LBW against  HD, which was not given (Silvers body language indicated he was rather p****d off). Wait, hold on it’s another wicket, this time Nixon drives straight to Compton at cover off Silverwood, surprisingly Compton takes it well. We have dragged ourselves back in into this match, which really impressed me. Hour and a half in, first bit of spin Shaggy comes on to bowl. Leicester number 7 Henderson, Barmy Kev could bat better than him while he is drunk, he has scored 26 runs, joke 20 have come off the edge! ( MTWD moderator takes this as a compliment, I think).

Pie Eyed At lunch

Leicester are 352 – 5. I’m now off for chips and pie, at brilliant prices. You can stick your Lords Square Pies Up Your….. Anyway, my thoughts are on how well we have come back well this morning, but Leicester are still on top.

Back after lunch.

Shaggy starts bowling. I’m sitting here thinking, if we knock these over quickly we are really back in the game. Just what we wanted another wicket. Shaggy good catch by Billy the Kid at short leg. Henderson gone for 26. Next Togo Rowe bowled Finn, just as I was sending Barmy Kev a tactical text. We are doing what is needed now. Great start to the session! Cummings and HD now join together. They start to target Shaggy who goes for 13 off 1 over. Cummings gets dropped on 16 by Smith diving to his right, definite chance. Leicester bring up 400 with a streaky 4 for Cummins off Murts in the 118th over. Cummings is next to go caught Nash bowled Shaggy, just while I was writing my MTWD notes. HD flicks one straight to Ace who diving forward and makes a superb great catch. End of a superb innings that provided really great HD vision. Lawson out next ball (quack quack) ,so Murts on hat-trick start of next innings.

I was happy, but then I was….

Middx come out to bat. Before we know it, Billy is gone playing a loose shot! Soon after Strauss is out clean bowled. Where’s my big smile gone. 11 – 2. Smith and Shah start to bring it together, but Smith is then caught by a brilliant catch by short leg. The 23 looked good, but scant consolation at this stage Now this really f****d me off -Joyce playing a slog sweep trying to bat for time!! He goes for 5 bowled by Henderson. This brings Compo to the crease who hangs around without scoring and goes playing another awful shot!! Caught and bowled Lawson! Now it’s the Legend and Ace at the crease. We need something big from these two! We ended on 112 – 5 ,as I caught my fast train to London, preparing myself mentally for seeing West Ham, as stress relief.

I reckon

With amazing Ace still there, we can still set a target of 150 – 200. Then we might just have a chance, given our bowling today.   Our Religious fans have a dilemma do they chant for divine intervention " Amazing Ace" or do they do a rain dance??

Excellent report, Barmy Paul.

Liberally edited by Barmy Kev, to whom I am much indebted this week and next.
