Loverboy reports on a over half a days cricket, being grateful for our great cover up. As well as enjoying seasonal delights , he experienced unseasonal weather, and a pleasent off the field distraction. At least we also get hear more about the cricket.

On a day when not so long ago, we would have expected to see little or no cricket at all, we were lucky to witness 57 overs thanks to improved covering and more than alert groundstaff, who showed a welcome willingness to get on with procedings.

Early morning rain restricted pre lunch session to a mere 40 minutes, in which we added 10 runs without loss. 

There followed in the luncheon interval-rain, hail  and thunder that left water lying on the square. However, unexpected sunshine and a stiff breeze saw a resumption at 3:15.  A lunch of Matzo sarnies filled with scrummy smoked salmon, sadly  only Rakusen's, as my pocket could not stretch to the more sophisticated Schimura.

The day was further enhanced by making the acquaintance of a charming new lady steward, who I instructed in the finer parts of game. 

On resumption runs were easier to come by, as Knocker and the Ice Man took advantage of some wayward bowling. Berg departed for a pleasing 33 on debut.  Murts smacked a quickfire 22. There was a quick Shaggy innings, followed by some lusty blows from Woody, before the crucial 3rd batting point was achieved.  Nashy was last  out  four short of a deserved century.

Glam with 23 overs to bat were quickly undone by the lively Dial M who took 3 wickets, swinging the ball prodigously in a stong cross wind- this was not due to the after effects of the inferior brand of Matzos.   Silvers, also beat the bat regularly with little luck. Mark Powell then batted confidently with Darlrymple who took the score to 85 -3 at close.

With better weather expected in the next two days, a result is still a distinct possibilty

Lover: concur with your comments on The Ice Man's contribution. As a comparitive unknown, he has performed creditably in both List A and now CC. A bonus given the injury/blocked/selected swathe which has cut through the original 9 pace bowlers mentioned by a guy at the AGM. The arrival of Vern and the Cyclone is timely. In the meantime ' Ice Man ' has helped out with bat and ball.
