Middlesex Average Prediction Game After 11 Matches

Did You Predict......
By Ged August 11 2008
Here is an update to the Middlesex 2008 prediction competition. This year there are 12 punters playing for glory. As last year, Ged is also tracking 3 computed entries by way of a benchmark. Ged publishes the positions of contestants based on the first eleven matches of the season. The standings so far are fascinating, but there is everything still to play for.

There are 12 punters playing for glory in the 2008 Middlesex Averages prediction competition.

If you click through the link to the “results after three matches” (below) you can see details on the runners and riders in the competition this year. Here is the position after eleven matches played.

Remember that this is still not a totally reliable stage of the season, especially as several key players have only played a few matches so far.  I’d expect to see some averages move quite a lot as the season concludes, which leaves everything still to play for.

Still, it is fascinating to see Daisy still in a pretty solid first place, ahead of all of the benchmarks and just ahead of Chiangmai Cheers.

Normally the benchmarks do better than the humans, but that isn’t the case so far this season, with 4 people: Daisy, Chaingmai, Janet Davis and Ged all ahead of the best of the benchmarks.   Janet must be very excited with her third place and certainly still stands a decent chance of scooping the prize, while Ged himself is a respectable fourth.

Barmy Kev tied with Dingy Bags are next (amongst the humans) while Loverboy is tied with first class averages for the next spot.

Comebackgatt has fallen from grace faster than anyone might have imagined, from 2nd place after 3 matches to bottom after 15.  He was seduced by the thought of high averages for the stars and plugged for low averages for some of those who have in fact done well this season.

The base spreadsheet for the game at this stage is published at the Googledocs link below, if you want a butchers at the raw numbers.  http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pwWi9CpG2dsiDpHZQWLNNFg

If anyone wants to see the full spreadsheet model that includes all the predictions and the formulae for computing the winners, you are very welcome to do so.  Please e-mail Ged at gedladd@hotmail.co.uk and he’ll e-mail you a copy of the spreadsheet.

Ged will publish the final standings as soon after the season ends as he is able.  But for now, let’s hear it for the girls, dominating the Top 3 with ChiangmaiCheers rather awkwardly sandwiched between them. Good luck everyone.

To be sanwiched between Daisy and Janet would be akin to be suspended between heaven and hell.
I think I could suffer the pain to experience the pleasure, and aspire to displacing CC in second place.

That's showbiz CBG,one day your's up,and the next day your's up.
Falling from Grace must always be preferable than falling from Janet,it's along way down.

For once, Loverboy, you could (if you so chose) recognise the fact that Janet's predictions in this game have been pretty good this year.

There is a fair slug of luck as well as skill to this game; we all know that. But I must say, when I read Janet's entry this year I thought it had a decent chance.

Meanwhile if Daisy does better than me in the end, or heaven preserve me ends up winning the whole competition, I'll be hearing about it all winter!!

Fair dos to Janet Ged,always a sound thinker on the game and much credit to her for her perceptive forecasting and superior knowledge to most including myself. All those hours spent behind the pavilion have clearly not been wasted
And as for The delectable Daisy,I've always suspected she has a far better understanding of what's going on out there than you Webmeister.
I'll certainly be cheering her past the post, and no doubt any stick you will be receiving from her will be more than justified in the light of your patronising attitude.

COME ON DAISY ,YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

excuse my ignorance on this Ged, but is there a minimum amount of games to qualify for points. I notice some players have "Blank" against batting but not bowling??
