Middlesex fail to Get Carter

Didn't fo this for us
By Barmy Paul
May 15 2009
Barmy Paul reports, as dictated to Kev after breakfast before Scotland Middlesex game, of his experience at Edgbaston 2 days before.

I agreed to do match report then realised having returned late from match had to pack and prepare for Scotland next day. Was agreed I would therefore recount events to Barmy Kev during a sober moment in Scotland. There was one just after breakfast.

Was on high after Kent game and was hoping for more of same as did our following of 3. We won toss and with ball swinging surprised we elected to bat. We lost 2 early wickets for 1 run and thought of 3rd wicket partnership against Kent so didn’t panic. As texting Kev, Hughes 3rd out then was thinking could this be a repeat of Bath and I really didn’t fancy a pub-crawl of Edgbaston. Malan and Morgan pulled it round. Although runs were hard to come by built steady 79 run partnership. Amusing incident was when both stranded in running mix up Warwickshire missed throw at stumps three times before they were safe.  However, when both out a mini collapse. Silverwood rescued it a bit.  I actually though 165 on slow wicket a challenging score.

I might of guessed Carter who I thought cost us Stanford, gets crucially dropped early on and makes a 50 as the slow wicket seemed to get quicker as Warwickshire bat, Needing just over 3 an over there was little pressure on. Barmy Kev realising the score and not happy with Carter (who also took 3 wickets) was getting runs, sent an uncomplimentary text that I can’t repeat here which was followed by his wicket. Well texted Kev. This was last highlight as Bell and Ambrose sadly for us not picked for England eased the Bears home. The only other incident of note was regular sirens heard going along main road outside ground. This became like a local anthem.

Was not depressed s off to Scotland tomorrow and am sure Kev will have lots to tell with this trip.

Depends which part, Diamond. I wouldn't fancy a pub crawl round Digbeth, for example.

Small Heath ain't a good spot for a pub crawl wiv aht a couple of 7 foot minders. Nice report Paul. I can't believe that the Stanford loanee is the same bloke we had in Antigua. He has lost about 5 stone: was a complete slab in the Carib and played like one.
