Warwickshire Have The Trott's, But Middlesex Get The Runs

FPT Hope - It Lives!!
By Beefy Roberts
May 19 2009
Beefy Roberts reports from Lord's on a memorable Monday.  Not only a nip and tuck match between Middlesex and Warwickshire, but news from Edinburgh revives Middlesex's faint hopes of qualifying for the FPT Quarters.  Super match report Beefy - many thanks to you.
After a slight delay i finally get to Lords for our match in the FPT and Phil Hughes last game for the Middle, lets hope he returns next year.

I am wondering if Kimmy has made it today as she was thinking about turning up.  Problem,my mobile phone has packed up,can't contact anyone, what am i going to do?

I arrive and the Middle are fielding, i find out we have no Shaggy due to finger damage, so we have Captain Morgan today.  Our old Antiguan tourist Carter is back to haunt us again as he reaches 50 as i sit down, not hanging around i decide to get to the bar, one eye on the test the other on our match, Carter then sends a 6 into the stand, looks like he is aiming for Don Shelley in his box.
Warwickshires Neil Carter drives during his score of 56 during the Friends Provident Trophy match at
Didn't you used to be on our side, Carter?

A breakthrough, Captian Morgan catches Carter and in comes Bell so we have two ex England number 3's in the field.  Still not found Kimmy.

After Carter the Bears running slows down a lot, then we hear Kent are 16-2 in Edinburgh,a mention of 'C mon Scotland' from my direction is heard.  Sitting with my mate Jeff, he asks if im doing a ball by ball report as i still write loads down, or is it The Secret Diary of BeefyRoberts age 45 1/4.

Trott then hits his 50 off 72 balls the Bears are slowly building a good score Bell was being quite letting Trott do all the work, then Bell is out by Berg for his 13 and as he walks off i can imagine a smile on Ace's face.  After watching a bit of the test today i was thinking if the crowd at Lord's is bigger than the test today.

A Serious Bout of the Trott's

Troughton out and Ambrose comes in up the order to maybe throw the bat for runs and the PA announces that Kent are 54-4,another cry of C'mon Scotland. There is a great sight in the pavilion of two Chelsea pensioners, will they both be batting for us?

6 overs left and Silverwood at the pavilion end has a tactical meeting with Ace and Captain Morgan next ball Westwood is out caught behind.  Trott reaches 100,a slowly built ton and the Bears finally reach a total of 276-6.

At lunch a walk around the ground finding Darren and Mike from Antigua walking around and Don Shelly marching to the offices with his paperwork from the first innings.  Our innings starts with Billy marching to the crease looking like he means buisness with PJH following Billy clean bowled his ex team mate Carter 37-1.  PJ Huge is in his usual form for us blasting to 52 off 37 balls with 10 fours, mate Jeff saying he looks like he could be there all afternoon, at 57 off 43 balls he is out chasing a wide ball he is caught behind, as he walks back to the pavilion for the last time this season for us he gets a standing ovation form the Middle few that are in the ground. (From me, cheers Phil, hope to see you next season).

Ace gets going but had 2 chances of being out to two diving catches but still going for a boundry 4 then a straight shot down to the pavilion for a superb 6.  Malan goes for 10 so Morgan comes in, out for a golden duck and straight back to the pavilion.

Then the good news in anounced,Scotland have beaten Kent, I cheer and get told off by a young lad of about 4!.  Earlier a girl had come into the Warner bar with her baby (probably linked to a player); the kid told me to be quiet as the baby is sleeping!!!

Berg and Dexter are looking comfortable taking singles here and there with the boudaries as well adding a good partnership,we are checking the runrate, still sitting 1 run different, saying it doesnt look good at the moment, still got Berg and Dexter ticking along nicely and with 9 overs left we still need 61 to win, then Berg goes, a superb one handed diving catch to his left by Trott, oh no we cry, or words to that effect, last 5 overs the powerplay is called, a great time to use it.

Scottie sends a huge 6 into the mound stand and then the tension starts to rise, getting a quick pint we are checking everything out - run rate, D/L, the lot.

Then a misfield and a cheer as a second run is taken we are on 259-6 a four by Scottie and up to 263-6, needing 10 to win off 2 overs the 50 partnership is up off just 36 balls.  The last over we need 4 to win,and with 3 balls left the Middle win a cracking game of cricket by 4 wickets.  Dexter getting man of the match.

Man of the March - Kent Might Be Wishing He Was Still There

Travelling back, Jeff and myself meet BarmyPaul his dad and Seaxe man on the train, we discuss all the ifs, buts, maybes and more about what could happen.  All we can do is sit back and watch the game on Weds and see what happens.

Nice one Beefy. If you are reading this Big Mark. I have your pink wig. As we discussed on the Met train Beefy. The if's and but's equal, Kent need to win 2moro, but not by too much looking at the group table. Changing the subject: ticket sales for the 20/20 matches at Lord's are not too clever at present. So, anyone on this board who knows of punters who may be interested in coming: should be encouraged.
