Poetic Justice to a famous Middlesex day

Took 5. Hopes are alive
By Limerick Leprichaun
July 30 2010
There was a moderator who needed someone to do a report, Someone who could capture it in rhyme is what he thought. This report is not ball by ball, But it doesn't matter at all, Cos the highlights of a great Middlesex day have been caught.

PROLOGUE

A mod said respectfully "I say
Please do your report with some word play".
So this report is for Kev
And I hope it will rev
Of a very good Middlesex day

SURREY INNINGS

There was a cricket team from Middlesex
Whose season was under a hex
So when Surrey said hey
We want to bat all day
We feared for our skipper young Dex.

And many supporters were fretting
And maybe even some betting
On the score at lunch
They had a bad hunch
That the bowlers would runs all be letting.

But the morning itself was a bit cloudy
And the openers were bowling soundly
Collins was swinging
With oohs and with aghing
And we nearly a hatrick clapped loudly.

Now there is a fast bowler named Murts
Who this season has bowled well in spurts
He kept one end tight
With wickets in sight
And Davies was out before he did us much hurt.

But in came a batsman called Ramps
Who thought running would give him the cramps
So he scored first in fours
Then he ran a few more
We hoped he wouldn't on us stamp.

And then after lunch it all went right
With stumps all flying  a nice sight
And from four to six down Surrey
Went in a flurry
Now lets hope we can keep it real tight.

Now there is a young player called Josh
Whose catching is clearly not tosh
So he fell to the ground
With the ball safe and sound
And Batty went off muttering bosh.

Then tail enders went for a hit
As they edged the ball for a bit
And away the ball flew
And the runs just grew
And the bowlers they needed their wit.

But the fielders all played a good part
And the catching by all it was smart
So the wickets soon fell
And with Murts all was well
As his 5-fer was marked on the chart.

MIDDLESEX INNINGS

Now there is a home batsman called Newman
Of whom this year we've oft cried Oh man!
But today in the sun
He scored run by run
And soon all the cry was just "good man!".

And there is also a young keeper called Simmo
Who as a batsman is clearly no bimbo
And he played his part
In a good opening start
Shame he was out to a big heave ho.

But now came a batsman called Ace
Who rifled some fours with fierce pace
And with Dawid Malan
Who I simply can't rhyme
Made light work of the innings run chase.

Oh and there is an England player called Eoin
Who as a batsman said "I will show 'em"
His hundred so good
It was marked on the board
Such a shame we hardly will see him.

So supporters we all went home happy
Today we simply were not scrappy
And we won all the sessions
Without any questions
Let's push on tomorrow and make it snappy.

On Thursday, at Lords, the ball swung
Murts and Pedro, their praises were sung,
Men from south of the river
Were all of a shiver
Their batting was surely well hung!

Brilliant effort there Lep. You've quite a talent and captured the essence of the day nicely.

The game might just be the tonic we need...hoping for a big big Malan knock now which will do him the world of good.

So Morgan got 130...so when does the bidding war start from the counties?
