Rain saves Middx
By David Slater
May 17 2003
Rain secured a second sucsessive draw for Middlesex with only 56 overs played today. Strauss (93) and Koenig (96) performed well as Middx reached 249/4 when the umpires called proceedings to a halt
Day 3:
Middlesex have it all to do to save this match. Having been bowled out for 221 they were 61/0 at close with one day left to bat out.

Day 2:
Ben Hutton proved that number 4 is his rightful position by hitting an unbeaten 61, but Middlesex still ended the day on the back foot at 135-5, still needing another 188 to avoid following-on for the second game in a row.

The morning session saw only two wickets as Joe Dawes took his 4th scalp of the innings, dismissing Matthew Walker for 32. Paul Weekes then mopped up the tail after the break, also taking 4 wickets as Kent were bowled out for 472.

Middlesex’s reply began disastrously as both Andrew Strauss and Owais Shah went with only 8 on the board, but a 97 stand between Ben Hutton and Sven Koenig steadied the ship for the ‘sex. When Koenig went for 41, Middlesex suffered a mini-collapse, losing Ed Joyce for a duck and Weekes for 3. Former number 4 David Nash then joined his successor to see Middlesex to 135-5 at Stumps.

DAY 1:
Kent seized the initiative on Day 1 as Middlesex struggled with the ball again. Ed Smith hit a century and was well supported by Surrey and Middlesex rejects Michael Carberry (53) and Greg Blewett (60). 23 overs were lost to rain, but the Joe Dawes did remove Blewett and Smith late on.
