Chad Keegan was the hero of the Outlaws’ innings, taking 3-28, with Anurag Singh, Russell Warren and David Hussey all making 31 and England’s unfortunate test reject Chris Read top scoring with 45. Simon Cook also chipped in for Middlesex, taking 2-46 off his 9 overs.
The home side’s final total of 207-7 would have been slightly more than the ‘sex would have hoped to restrict them to, but after a solid start to the chase, the situation improved considerably.
Improvement soon became heartache as 74-0 became 106-5 and suddenly Notts were back in the box seat and the required run rate was becoming a huge worry for the ‘sex. With Klusener at the crease, nothing is ever taken for granted, but when 19 were needed to secure victory off the final over, the result seemed like a foregone conclusion. However, Klusener dealt some cruel blows to his former club as Middlesex secured a shock 3-wicket victory to continue their impressive start to the season.
