Eagles grounded
By David Slater
July 16 2004
Middlesex secured a second consecutive 9 wicket win in a row, this time beating the Essex Eagles in the Twenty20 Cup with a brilliant team performance in the field, which saw Simon Cook and Lance Klusener close to hat-tricks.

Andy Flower was the only one to make an impact as Simon Cook (2-17 + one run out) Lance Klusener (2-32) and Ben Hutton (2-21) proved themselves to be no walk over reducing Essex to a measly 120/8 at the end of their overs.

In a repeat of yesterday, the Middlesex batsmen were too good for Essex, despite Darren Gough bowling out Andy Strauss for 10. Paul Weekes, no doubt looking forward to when Middlesex will return to the Walker Ground, was again not out (55*) and was supported by an entertaining display from Owais Shah (48*) as Middlesex reached their target with 10 balls to spare.
