Rain Leaves Match Heading For Draw

Rain!

A complete wash-out on day three of the Championship match at Grace Road against Leicestershire means what was developing into an interesting game is heading for a draw with just one day remaining.
LEICESTERSHIRE VS ESSEX - Day 3 Report

COMPETITION: Frizzell County Championship, Division 1

DATE: Weds 30th April - Sat 3rd May, 2003

VENUE: Grace Road, Leicester

STATE OF PLAY: Leicestershire are 3 runs behind Essex with three 1st innings wickets in hand

For the second consecutive Friday in the midlands, the day's play has been a complete wash-out and unless the captains can again conjure up a thrilling finish as last week, then the match is heading for a draw.

A shame, because Essex had got themselves right back into the match after being bowled out 188 in their 1st innings, by reducing Leicestershire to only 185-7 on day 2, which since then, it's been raining.

The forecast is better for tomorrow and a full day's play or thereabouts should be possible, but Essex will be wanting to take the last 3 wickets and then earn 7 points for the draw, assuming no contrived finish.
