Surrey defeated in rain game

Essex beat Surrey by just one run in a rain affected game at Chelmsford. In a game which was reduced to a 5 over slog, Essex made 71 from their 5 overs, with openers Irani and Middlebrook scoring vital runs at the top of the innings.

Surrey won the toss and decided to bowl, Essex had a good start with Middlebrook and Irani sharing in a stand of 58 for the opening wicket. Azhar Mahmood removed both of these in quick succession to leave the eagles 60 for 2. Andre Adams did not last long as he fell to Clarke for just 1. However Essex managed to reach a respectable score of 71 for 3 from their 5 overs.

Ali Brown got the Surrey innings off to a good start with a quick score of 14. However when he fell by Palladino, Benning also fell to Palladino for a duck. and surrey were 16 for 2. Azhar Mahmood looked to have done enough with some powerful hitting. However Surrey fell just one run short as 35 from 13 balls was not enough to seal a victory for the lions. Untitled Document
