Yorkshire belatedly swallowed their pride and introduced overseas talent to the first eleven. Regrettably, Richie Richardson and Sachin Tendulkar under-performed in their new surroundings. However Australian maestro Michael Bevan proved to be a bigger success as he posted an unbeaten 113 on his debut. (A decade later another overseas import Jacques Rudolph would emulate the likes of Bevan, Ashley Metcalfe, and Martyn Moxon by compiling a century on his Yorkshire debut.) He also had the good fortune to be playing amongst a supremely talented bunch of players who were beginning to do justice to the county's cause. David Byas, Darren Gough, Peter Hartley, Anthony McGrath, Chris Silverwood, Michael Vaughan, and Craig White were all instrumental in Yorkshire's renaissance in the latter half of the 1990s. One noteworthy result came in 1991 when Yorkshire scraped home by a mere three runs at Colchester against Essex who would later go on to be crowned county champions.
