Come On You Tykes
A Roses Setback
By Gary Watton
July 21 2018

This match was cut short by inclement weather. With only fourteen overs at each others' disposal, the team batting second really should have been chasing down a relatively small total. However, the Lightning top order proceeded to amass the kind of target which would have been more than competitive in a twenty overs' contest. After the bludgeoning from the home team, the Vikings did their best to match the slogging heroics. In fact, Adam Lyth and Joe Root didn't deserve to be on the losing team. However, the Tykes left themselves just a little too much to do. Kane Williamson needed a four off the final ball, but no such boundary was forthcoming. Consequently the red rose finally managed to record a one-day win against the neighbours, thereby maintaining their fine start to this year's competition.
