Lewis out, Plunkett back?
By Jon Steer
September 6 2006
This week's game against Hampshire is likely to be Mick Lewis' last match for Durham. The Australian seamer has been ordered to attend pre-season training with Victoria. Lewis hasn't impressed this season and seems unlikely to be back at Durham next year.
Lewis had been expected to be available for the whole season but state side Victoria changed their minds and recalled the seamer early.

Coach Martyn Moxon said: "It has come as a bit of a shock but Victoria have decided they want Lewis to take part in a pre-season training camp."

Lewis has not had the impact that last year's spell with club promised, he has taken 30 first class wickets this season from 10 games. Although no decision on his future with Durham has yet been taken, it seems likely that the club will look elsewhere for their overseas players.

With Graham Onions called up to the England squad, Durham's bowling attack is looking even weaker than usual but there could be some good news. Liam Plunkett's recovery from injury is progressing well and Liam hopes to be available for the championship matches against Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Liam is yet to play a championship match for Durham this season after been a regular in the England squad up until a side strain while playing for Durham against West Indies A put him on the injury list. He is at Loughborough this week, where his recovery will be assessed by England's medical staff.
