Allan Donald says Harmison is not out of form

Allan Donald, England's latest bowling consultant has given his full support to Steve Harmison and inisisted that his best form is "just around the corner." With injuries to Flintoff and Hoggard, Harmison and Plunkett will be leading England's attack against the West Indies on Thursday and are both being coached by the former South African test bowler.

Donald sees a lot of similarities between himself and Harmison, saying that like him Harmison is a rhythm and a confidence bowler. Speaking at the training camp for the forthcoming Old Trafford test Donald admitted that Harmy has been a little inconsistant but maintains tahat he is still a quality, world class bowler and his best form could be just a few overs away.

Donald will compare technical footage of Harmison from the last test and  from tests where he had much more success to see if it offers any help. Harmison took 24 wickets for Durham in his few appearances before returning to international duty but has not had much success at the top level. Donald suggested that as a confidence bowler it can take a lot of bowling to become confident and put in a top class performance.

No doubt we will all be watching closely later this week to see if Donald has worked any magic on Harmy and Plunkett.

Yeah, I think it must be to do with confidence, The West Indies are really no better than a County team right now-in fact I think they'd lose to most division 1 sides.
I think all the fuss about the Ashes tour has an impact-the criticism was way over the top in my opinion, if that wide hadn't been the first ball of the series it would hardly have received any attention.
Harmy will definitely come good soon I think.

Plunkett is still a young player so you have to expect him to be a bit erratic, thing is though he is a wicket taker. He has been criticised too much by the press, when i saw Gough bowling on TV the other day, his first two overs contained about 7 wides and yet the commentators just said "these things happen" Yet when someone about 15 years younger bowls a couple of loose deliveries, the commentators go OTT.

The other thing is that the bowling has not been the same since the ECB stupidly let Troy Cooley leave.

Agreed, losing Cooley was a big blow, especially for Harmison as he did seem to really bring the best out of him.

Donald has also said this week that Plunkett reminds him of a young Glen McGrath but a bit faster!
