And the next season after this one is....

Soon be back
By Grockle
December 21 2009
The Christmas break always seems like the halfway point to another summer of cricket at HQ. The frontpage counter goes into forward mode and we look forward to the first cold days of April and an inkling of what is in store for the club.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL AND BEST WISHES FOR 2010

(Where the hell did the decade go?)

I'll be back in live video mode later this week if I can get my Christmas shopping finished and my collective buttocks in gear.

The end of this year will bring a close to any post mortems and then it's on to look at what we face in the next summer of willow and leather madness.

We'll discuss the Long Room, the pitch (endlessly), the membership prices, comments made by the pundits about our chances.....and maybe, just maybe...the players and their prospects from a Somerset supporters point of view.

I hope to run some simulated friendlies but it's a problem because the new version of ICC always comes out in the winter and so my copy doesn't have the up to date squad of players...ever.

But for now.  Can I wish you and yours a peaceful and happy holiday.  May the New Year give you the things you want for yourself and your family...as well as the Championship for God's Own County.

Yes,let's hope Christmas and the rest of the Winter passes us by as quickly as possible.
I'm in need of real cricket, good friends and the insults that goes with it.
Happy Christmas to all of you who actually enjoy the seasonal binge.
The Spring can't come around quickly enough for me.

Yes; all the very deepest felicitations of the various winter festivals to one and all.
Pick whichever one you fancy and use it as an excuse to have a warming drink, or a family get-together, or a knees-up.......or all three!
I'm having a mulled cider in honour of Sol Invictus.
Wassail!

Don't forget, peeps, today is the 22nd, so, and I know it's still a bit early, go out and get that tree. Still a couple of days before going mad and getting prezzies. Deck the halls with wotsit & doubrey, tra-la-la-la-la, la-la la la. Mulled cider? Lovely stuff. I had a few mulled ciders as chasers to my extra cold Guinnesses in Cornwall last week; slight snag, I had to buy a couple more chasers to go with each pint. Might try some Guinness chasers next time. Mulled cider at the county ground? Could catch on. Bet India beat us to that business venture though. Steff Blubber, anxious about world cup audiences, has announced England games which clash with Somerset's T20 will be postponed until the 2014 world cup. Having already rearranged those fixtures, Somerset have arranged to play Brazil in the World Cup final (pending some umpire referals).
Hang up your stockings on the wall, have yourselves a merry little Christmas, and tarum tadum dum. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. See you in 2010, Somerset's county championship year.
P.S. Who arranged the AGM on a City home game fixture? The first AGM I will miss in about 10 years. Can someone else ask those searching questions that I always ask?

Just one point to take issue with Tractor. I know where I prefer to see stockings and it's not on the wall!

Tractor: I find your Christmas note entirely unacceptable, such was your lamentable attempt to spell a word that has a hundred variants, of which yours was at the limper end of the spectrum.

My personal favourite is "dudbright" - as in the Scottish placename; other variants are always welcome.

Cheers

Dudbright?

Large James will tell you that he used to play for Chelsea.
No, not Jim, He didn't play for Chelsea.

Happy Christmas to one and all.

"Woogahumohtamuph."

15 letters, fits everything ...

Always works in the 'Times' and the 'Telegraph' crossword.

Works both across and down to finish it in three minutes.

Always a winner on the train.

Beat me if you will ...

VtF.

Very good, Vic - except for the small matter of its being 16 letters.

So.....can I just repeat my wishes for you and yours in relation to 2010. It does seem strange that we're here and not in silver suits with pills for food and aircraft for cars but there ya go!

One wish for all of us - The CC this year? Keep the faith guys and gals

Wash your keyboard out, Lord Grockle. What's that question mark doing after the words "this year"?
