Hayward Not Returning
By Ben Woodall
February 10 2004
It has been announced by Worcestershire that South African pace bowler Nantie Hayward will not return for the 2004 season as had previously been expected.
Hayward, who took a total of 67 wickets at 22.88 in last seasons County Championship, was still undecided over whether to return to Worcestershire in 2004 so the club have since made the decision for him. Speaking to BBC Sport, Chief Executive Mark Newton said "Hayward has never 100% confirmed he was coming back so the club had to secure its position."

Uncomfirmed rumours have since linked Australian quickie Andrew Bichel to the vacant overseas slot but the club refuse to comment. However they did say a deal with an unnamed overseas player would be completed by the end of the week.

Bichel of course is a former Worcestershire favourite having starred for the club in 2001 when he took 66 wickets. Bichel has recently also turned down a move to Middlesex which only serves to fuel the rumours of his return to New Road further.
