For what seems like the umpteenth time in the last 25 years, Yorkshire have succeeded in falling foul of the one-day semi final hurdle. The Tykes consistently fail to bring their A Game for such occasions, and their trip to the south coast was no exception. As much as I welcome the appointment of big Steven Patterson as the new county captain, his decision to bowl first was baffling. With young Carver taking much punishment and James Vince cultivating a massive ton, the hosts were allowed to exert much scoreboard pressure, courtesy of a huge score.

Of course the batting conditions were fairly favourable, so if the away team played their cards right, then a successful run chase was achievable. Regrettably the top order misfired again for the second successive match, and in spite of three consecutive fifty stands, Yorkshire fell well short of the lofty target. At least young Tattersall and Matt Fisher have emerged as decent players from this campaign.

Of course Yorkshire were also shorn of five England internationals, but for all the regular, annual one-day successes, there is a certain deja vu about the white rose's forays into the last eight or the last four of the major limited overs tournaments. The county hasn't won a one-day competition since 2002. It's hard to believe that they will exorcise their semi final woes any time soon.
