MCC in Trouble?

A Somerset-supporting friend of mine, though not a contributor to this site, has been on the MCC waiting list for some years with the understanding that he would become a full member in 2043. I was looking forward to receiving a Guest Pass so that I could celebrate my 100th birthday with him at Lord's. He has just received a letter from MCC to say that he can become a Life Member with effect from 1st January for a payment of just £45,000. Of course, I have instructed my brokers on the Cayman Islands to transfer that sum immediately to MCC in his name, feeling that 2043 may be just too far away.

You jest LoL. This is limited to the rich and famous, it's not what sport is supposed to be about

If, as you always say, LoL, you cannot die until Somerset have won the County Championship, then the question really is whether there will be anything that one might recognise as the CCC and if there is will we have won it by 2043?

I wouldn't bet too much of your Cayman Islands money on the former, although obviously the latter shouldn't be too much of a problem.

No jesting on my part. It sounds like greed of the most obnoxious kind.

Indeed. Nobody could dispute that. I'll rephrase that - no decent person could...

One rule for them and one for the rest of us. Not a point against any political party in particular btw

Can't beat a bit of equality can you? They are obviously keen to level up the gender disparity!! The MCC are so 'woke'!!

It’s easy, La La. Become prime minister and you will be invited to join, too. Unlike in most other countries though you will have to pay the normal fees.

I often used to pass a high - quality gentlemen's outfitters near to the Abbey in Bath. In one corner of their impressive display window were a range of ties that they were offering for sale.

Amongst University college ties, Independent school ties, regimental ties etc, always sat proudly an MCC tie.

I often wondered whether one had to show proof of MCC membership before being allowed to purchase one, but I always lacked the courage to ask.

Not that I would have worn one under false pretences anyway.

It would appear you would have had to prove membership Clarence.

Can we chuck the MCC into Bristol harbour? The rightful place of all unwanted, outdated relics.

Let's ensure we empty their pockets first, before we tip them into the harbour. Presumably Guy Lavender will have to swim or sink.
