Is that because Steve Davies has better bowlers in his side to encourage nicks behind than Foakes`s Morkel, two Currans, Rikki Clarke, Jordan Clark, McKerr, Dernback et al?

ECB in their usual parsimonious mood over the Division Two financial spoils this year.

Glo`shire are now virtually nailed on to finish third, and claim this season`s additional promotion spot, as the First Division is beefed up to 10 counties in 2020. But because only two counties are usually promoted, there is no prize money for third place.

Typical `jobsworth` attitude.

Pakistan have sacked Sarfaraz Ahmed as their Test and Twenty20 captain because of a "visible loss of form and confidence".

Sarafarz is replaced as Test captain by batsman Azhar Ali while batsman Babar Azam will take over in T20s.

Azhar Ali re-appointment today as captain of Pakistan underlines yet again Somerset`s record in fielding, at one time or another, captains of all the major Test-playing nations - Ali, Viv Richards, Sunil Gavaskar, Martin Crowe, Greg Chappell, Sanath Jayasuriya, Graeme Smith and Ian Botham.

Can any other county match this?

Bored the pants off a bunch of Bermudian students visiting Delhousie University in Halifax Nova Scotia today as they entered the Ondaatje Lecture Hall in the Social Science Building.

"You may not know this but in Taunton......" Another 'fun fact' on another student University tour.

Doesn’t seem to be a lot of reaction just at the moment which surprises me as it is a pretty active Forum in general

Quite rightly Bobstan has added Ponting to the list - and equally rightly I can add Steve Waugh and Andrew Strauss. I am not sure whether Trescothick ever captained an England side, but Roebuck definitely did.

I see that Ioan Lloyd, the 18-year-old Welsh-born fly-half, who received rave reviews when making his debut for Bristol Bears in their Premiership thrashing of Bath on Friday night, is also a talented fast bowler.

He won the bowler-of-the-tour award when Clifton College visited Sri Lanka this time last year. Sadly, though, the days of dual participating sportsmen are long since gone, and Bristol Bears, where he already has a four-year contract, is obviously the better financial option.

Surrey confirm Reece Topley signing after the player rejected a contract renewal with Sussex.

Eight days ago Oval Invincibles signed Reece Topley as a fourth round £60K pick.

These two events are obviously unrelated
