As you say Grockle, that is how the Evil Cricket Board would see it, but true lovers of the game know different!

To hell with the Egotistical Cricket Board.

They are @#$%&.

They took cricket off the air, damaging its up and coming supporter base, then try to compensate by destroying the game that we love?

I see Nottinghamshire`s mercenaries are yet again doing their county proud (and us by default) in the second innings against Hampshire over the seas on the Isle of Wight. Ben Slater 12, Ben Duckett 0, Joe Clarke 0, as the struggle on 104-4, chasing 439.

Are they ever going to score any runs - or indeed remain in the side - in return for the big bucks they accepted to desert their academy counties?

Meanwhile they have signed Indian Test spinner Ravi Ashwin (of Jos Buttler `mankading` fame) as their championship overseas player for the second half of the season, including against Somerset at Taunton on July 7. Perhaps they want him for his batting.

Kent not doing much better at 106-3, chasing 426 against Surrey, but at least the only wicket they have lost so far today is that of the night-watchman.

Kent have shown good fight this season, thus far. I don’t think they can be faulted on that score. And they’re still below full-strength.

As for Clarke, it would scarcely qualify as a surprise if his mind had been scrambled by the illegal activity committed by his friend, the rapist, and by criticism of the unsavoury, though not illegal, activities in which they were jointly involved - stupid Whatsapp bed-notching games, that is.

More widely, it’s true that almost all of the runs that Duckett has made at county level came in CC2 and (I would guess) that about half of Clarke’s will also have done so. So it’s hardly as though either are proven world-beaters, so their struggles are more likely to point toward the fact that they’re not as good as Notts thought they were and, in Clarke’s case, weighed down by off-field affairs, than it is that they somehow don’t care. It is also probable that confidence is low. Ben Slater also came from CC2 and he didn’t even have a good record at that level. It shouldn’t be that much of a surprise that two players plucked from CC2 are not setting the world alight in CC1.

Should Warks ever manage to get their act together, then Notts might be relegated.

To be honest, I feel that Notts have shown a pathetic lack of fight in most of the 7 straight CC defeats that we have inflicted on them, most of which didn’t involve Duckett, Clarke or Slater.

If Joe Clarke`s mind has indeed been `scrambled` by the five-year prison sentence passed on his friend in the Hereford Crown Court rape case, then surely the Nottinghamshire club management have a duty of care towards him - and not play him, Agod.

If your surmise is true, it is only increasing the pressure on a young man who did not face any charges but whose activity, along with others, was severely criticized by the judge.

Interesting game going on at Beckenham. Kent require another 175 runs with 5 wickets remaining. 28.4 overs left in the day.

Looking more closely at that Notts scorecard, one also has to wonder at their tactics. International bowlers Broad and Ball, and dependable seamer, Luke Fletcher, bowled relatively very little, whilst Mullaney bowled himself and Andy Carter extensively. What would that usually imply? A dry surface that favours spin and cutters.... except that Hants promptly rolled them out with that noted bowler of slow cutters, Fidel Edwards, and also Messrs Barker and Abbot. .. so that would seem to me to imply that Mullaney may well have misread the pitch... either that or the Notts quicker bowlers didn’t understand how to bowl on it.

Thanks for the link, Julia - and well done, Kent (despite Mulder, one of the heroes, seemingly having little conception at times of the need to protect tail-end partners).

Surrey only managed to take seven Kent wickets all day, despite frequent short bursts from Mornie Morkel. Sam Curran seems to have been injured for he bowled only 8.1 overs.

Surrey still without a win after three matches. My heart goes out to them……...

All the more not to let them win at Guildford. Well done Kent, another county that hopefully stays in CC1 without a city based team

Re: 2019 OTHER CRICKET NEWS
AGod 23 May, 2019 20:29
Yep, imperative to not lose at Guildford.

On the other hand, a Somerset win might deal an all but fatal blow to Surrey's hopes..

Re: 2019 OTHER CRICKET NEWS

Certainly not always. There was never going to be one when Justin Langer scored 342 or whatever it was on it, for example.

Last year, Somerset became the one and only side to lose to Surrey there in the past decade as the previous featherbed had developed into a graveyard for the hosts.

I see Dom Bess has managed to make his way up north (no doubt nursing a bit of a hangover !) and is playing for Yorkshire today v. Hants.. Suspect he'll be pleased to be sitting in the dressing room as they have chosen to bat.

Meantime, Warks. are 63/1 v. Surrey, with Adam Hose perhaps fortunate to have retained his place.

Warwickshire have signed Sussex wicket-keeper/batsman Michael Burgess on a month`s loan from this weekend, as Ian Bell is still some distance away from being fit to play.

Burgess`s first match will be against Nottinghamshire, which even at this early stage could decide which will be the only county to be relegated to Division Two next season.

Good day to Bee-a-Root today. Century for Joe Root in today`s World Cup match, and a maiden double century for kid brother Billy for Glamorgan at Northampton.
