I, for one, couldn’t give a jot about the paucity of the shot!

Great credit to Sam Hain here, though.

Hain fast running out of partners and you'll be able to do a few more errands soon Rod

Get Leachy back on to end this. Him and Cove (to give H-D some chin music).

My swmbo has conveniently gone out for the morning.

Has there been any official comment about a possible review of the pitch and docking of points?

Just a tad nervous now - the main man still there and the target slowly reducing !

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
AGod 22 May, 2019 11:44
Thoroughly uninspiring stuff at the minute. What are we playing at with trundlers from either end? Waiting for the new ball? Not a good plan. End it, ASAP.

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
AGod 22 May, 2019 11:45
I’ve heard nothing, LoL.

But, in my view, it’s been a far worse track than the Lancs one for which we were, wrongly, censured.

Too many lifters off a length or only just short from the Pavilion End .

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
cricketjerry-mouse 22 May, 2019 11:55
Why on earth aren`t we bowling Jack Leach?

Poor captaincy, IMO.

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
AGod 22 May, 2019 12:12
Thank God for that. Should have been rotating the front line bowlers opposite Leach rather than the earlier Abell/Davey tandem.

We won, in the end, largely thanks to the charity of Warks in the first innings (viz extras) a terrific all-round performance from Craig Overton not withstanding.

If he’s shown sufficient form for Northants Vs Sussex, I do think that WSM’s man will have to return at the expense of Davey for Guildford.

Davey had a strike rate of 70 before this game, then went, I think, entirely wicketless. And the worst of it is that the one game that Josh missed was also the only one played on a flat track.

Given that it was only the Warks extras that made the difference, I think it’s fair to say that the strategy of producing a shocking pitch for a game with a struggling side, didn’t exactly prove itself.

Anyway, still top - And on to Lord’s!!

Phew.

Very well played, Sam Hain - and real fight from Hannon-Dalby.

Those first innings extras came in handy. Lewis Gregory, Cove and Jack Leach all deserved their wickets.

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
cricketjerry-mouse 22 May, 2019 12:22
Well though Lewis Gregory, Craig Overton and Tim Groenewald bowled, I feel we missed Jack Brooks on this, admittedly bowler-friendly pitch.

He always bowls full of a length, and would have undoubtedly made it move. He may be fit for Guildford in two weeks time, although the flat track there will hardly be to his taste. Perhaps a recalled Jamie Overton, in small bursts, would be useful there.

At least one part of the Lancs game, a tie, won't be repeated.

Thank god for those 47 extras first innings.

Indeed!!

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
AGod 22 May, 2019 12:44
Paul Van Meekeren might also be fit, in addition to Jack Brooks, for Guildford. Jamie Overton is fit and, hopefully, the 3 wkts vs Sussex may be a sign of approaching form.

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
Wickham 22 May, 2019 12:59
Jack Brooks said during yesterday’s radio commentary that he wouldn’t be available for Guildford, because he would first need to get some match practice under his belt.

Well. After this win I think I am going to go full non doom and gloom and suggest that this season we will NOT be relegated.

I know non relegation talk could be frowned on by some and it has been common for some to bring up the shadow if the 'big drop' around this time in a season pretty regularly but I think there might be enough evidence to go out on a limb and say we"d be 'unlucky' to fall this year.

I know it will be hard for some to face the truth but there it is. It has to be said to you 'dark coloured' glasses crowd. TiC 🤗🤩🤗🤩

Three years ago, in May 2016, we won another low scoring game against Warwickshire by 31 runs in just over 2 days. Chris Rogers topped-scored on 58, Ian Bell scored 0 & 1. Trescothick 2 & 25.

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
AGod 22 May, 2019 13:43
Devon Loch. Even he/she couldn’t fail (to that extent) from here.

Of more import for Messrs Hurry and Kerr is how to keep the bits that have been working, working, and how to fix the bits that really haven’t been working terribly well.

It is very encouraging that we are top, despite certain things not proving a success (principally the top three). But one imagines that, to stay top, Hurry and Kerr will need to find an answer.

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
Grizzers 22 May, 2019 14:04
Glad that we won that. Curious bowling tactics at times, but more than happy with the result.

Tremendous bowling effort again and a terrific all round performance by Craig. Yes, Josh’s bowling was below par, but let’s not forget that without his first innings runs we would have been in a huge mess.

Warks., despite the sterling efforts of Hain, have only themselves to blame, particularly the nonsensical number of extras conceded in our first knock.

Whilst I was gutted when Adam Hose departed suddenly in mid 2017, he has gone backwards since then, joining the plethora of players who (notwithstanding a likely much bigger pay cheque), mistakenly thought that the ‘grass was greener on the other side’

Very nice to be in pole position in the Championship and nicer still that we are in the RLODC final, with a welcome extra clear day before Lord’s.

Hopefully, we can improve our Championship batting before Guildford !

P.S. Anyone have any update on Tom Banton’s injury ?

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
Nailsea_Fizz 22 May, 2019 14:07
So another win which was never really in doubt, troups managed splendidly by Tom A and again without the use of golden balls. 1 run or 100 runs, 1 wicket or 10 wickets what is there to change.

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
Mike TA1 22 May, 2019 14:43
The Tom Banton question was ask at the Q&A Andy Hurry was not too sure if he will be fit on Saturday, it's a matter of wait and see.

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
mikeindex 22 May, 2019 16:00
Magnificent innings by Samhain, the celebrated Celtic festival, and Hannon-Dalby was his frustrating self yet again - I wasn't altogether in agreement wth some of Tom A's tactics but we made it in the end.
No-balls used to be a bit of an occupational hazard for most fast bowlers ("Arnie's always had one major problem, which is no balls", as Fred Trueman once memorably said), but given how heavily they are penalised these days it's rather inexcusable to bowl ten of them in eleven overs as Brookes did - the 16 byes were also down to wayward bowling and reflect no discredit on Tim Ambrose, a top-notch county keeper who must have felt a bit aggrieved looking at the scorecard.
(Parenthetically, I recall Tim making his first-class debut round about the time Curtly retired and reading "the diminutive Ambrose" in a newspaper report, which sounded distinctly odd at the time).
So essentially, we won because the discipline and pack-work of our bowlers were superior to Warwickshire's, which is setting up a bit of a template so far this year.

As Somerset fans we all know more than most how valuable every point is in this division.
Warwickshire were always going to struggle this season and this home fixture should have been one we targeted maximum points from.
I find it strange we were presented with a wicket that had little hope of yeilding max points and even a victory was more of a gamble, not to mention attracting the attention of the pitch inspectors.
Still, we won and are top, long may that continue

3rd and final day's photos.

Never in doubt, the pitch flatten out so the credit must go to the bowlers in keeping to their line and length.
The Warwickshire batsmen must take some credit in making us fight for the win.

Jeetan Patel well and truly bowled by Craig Overton, they are still looking for the stump.

And then begin the celebrations, Tom Abell couldn't reach that high so gave Craig a hug instead.

Craig Overton didn't make it easy for the batsman Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

https://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p490/cricketphotos1/Cricket%20Photos/2019%20Somerset%20Cricket%20Photos/Specsavers%20County%20Championship%202019/Somerset%20v%20Warwickshire%20starting%2020th%20May%202019/Sam%20Hain%20off%20Lewis%20Gregory.jpg

Lewis Gregory sneaked one past the bat of Sam Hain.

https://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p490/cricketphotos1/Cricket%20Photos/2019%20Somerset%20Cricket%20Photos/Specsavers%20County%20Championship%202019/Somerset%20v%20Warwickshire%20starting%2020th%20May%202019/Sam%20Hain%20hit%20on%20head%20off%20Craig%20Overton.jpg

This time it was Sam Hain to receive a short ball from Craig Overton.

https://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p490/cricketphotos1/Cricket%20Photos/2019%20Somerset%20Cricket%20Photos/Specsavers%20County%20Championship%202019/Somerset%20v%20Warwickshire%20starting%2020th%20May%202019/Oliver%20Hannon-Dalby%205.jpg

It is not looking good for Oliver Hannon-Dalby with the ball heading towards the bucket hands of Craig Overton.

Still at the top of the table and long may we remain there.

What a win.
3 wins from 4 and a winning draw.
AND a LORDS FINAL.

A win is a win.
It's great for some to be able to criticise our tactics or not winning well enough!
A 20pt win is better than a drab 12pt batting bore fest of a draw.
This week esoecially the extra 1.5 days off may just may have a huge impact on the final as Hampshire may not even be getting on a ferry until tomorrow evening.....

The treble is still on!

Re: Warks CC1 Taunton
AGod 22 May, 2019 17:22
Really, the extras ended up being the difference - and sparing management's blushes viz-a-viz the questionable decision to roll with a very poor pitch.
