Yorks 161-5 v Hants at Headingley, all five dismissed batsmen having got into double figures. I don't want to read too much into a scorecard, but it rather suggests the kind of batting conditions where no-one is ever really in - and the fact that both teams wanted to bat if they won the toss (at Headingley of all places) suggests conditions are unlikely to improve.
Clearly the best result, from the point of view of our Championship ambitions, is a draw - which seems unlikely without intervention from the weather.
We shall see.

Hampshire are now level on points with us, but we have a game in hand. Yorkshire have acquired no batting points yet.

Hants wanted to bat not because of the pitch but because they very seldom win first-class matches, when batting second. This is what Kyle Abbot told BBC Yorks.

Hants have won 40% of their matches, batting first in recent seasons and a very much lower percentage batting second.

Yorkies all out for 181. Dom last man out for 6

Having gained no batting points today, Yorkshire cannot overtake Somerset in the present round of matches; Hampshire have already done so.

Let's hope Dom takes a few more

After that good start, it looks like he's taken a little tap.

Warks have a first innings lead over Surrey.

Have the scorers miscalculated, it seems a bit strange? Clarke run out as well. Oh dear

Only 1 batting point between York’s,Hants and Surrey.2 draws would be excellent and a Surrey defeat would almost count them out already

Unfortunately the forcast looks pretty good for Leeds the next two days.

Raining at Headingley and is forecast to continue until 7pm. Yorkshire only 3 down at the moment with 153 lead.

Looks as though Warwick are determined to fight for relegation. The worlds gone Batty.

Blimey. 7 wickets caught by Burns and Borthwick, where were they fielding? Maybe we should play 2 spinners next week?

Re: 2019 CC1 news from elsewhere...
Somerset LaLaLa 30 May, 2019 14:16
Now 3 wickets by Jeetan Patel, another spinner

But the game is on the Bunsen at Edgbaston.

There goes Elgar. And Hampshire 2 down. Somerset doing very nicely on the golf course or somewhere

Surrey 93 - 7, lose this and is that their title defence done before May has ended?

Re: 2019 CC1 news from elsewhere...
AGod 30 May, 2019 15:36
It would be.... provided we don’t contrive to open the door to them again next week....

It looks to me as though Essex and Yorkshire are most likely to be our major competitors for the CC, as things stand.

That being the case, I don’t think Bess’s loan should be extended beyond the initial period.

Anything Batty can do so can Patel. Will this pitch be investigated ?

No chance of pitch being investigated - it's a test match venue!!!

Whether Surrey's title chase is over will depend if there is a run away winner this year i.e. Surrey in 2018 or Essex in 2017.

If there is not, e.g. Somerset have a bad patch, then the champion may well be decided by the last round of the season on around 225 points. Aka whoever Sky wants

Interestingly the winners in recent years have only lost a maximum of one match all season, so Surrey will be in the brown stuff if they lose today. Essex and Hampshire have already lost one.

Yorkshire are potential competitors, but we did the double over them last season. Alastair Cook's form (125 and 90 this week) makes Essex a particular threat

Oh dear Surrey, nice figures from Patel.

And a wicket for that man Bess

Too early to rule out Surrey, you forget they’re mystery player - Cheque Book. Could come out anytime soon and score 1500 runs or take 40 wickets

Two wkts for Dom in the end, seems to have gone fairly well. Confidence and form may be returning.

I have a feeling that we might end up looking back, fondly, on Mr Hurry’s decision to loan players out, rather than have them play in the seconds..

Nailsea_Fizz 31 May, 2019 10:18
Is that the Royal we or Royal I as some of us never took the loans to be a bad thing in the first place.

Re: 2019 CC1 news from elsewhere...
AGod 31 May, 2019 10:49
No, it’s we as in fans as a group.

Nice attempt at creating a division, but I was personally supportive of the loans anyway.

Ah yes, the great player Cheque Book. Currently at Notts, waiting for his big bottom of the table performance against Warks. On the raging Edgbaston prairie next week

Re: 2019 CC1 news from elsewhere...

Despite making 390 in their first innings Yorkshire only managed to get three batting points (and Essex two bowling points)

In the match at Edgbaston scoring and wicket taking proved even slower, with Warks achieving a single batting point, Notts the one bowling point.
