Whilst, from afar, Lewis's Lions' tour to the UAE last winter, did *not* appear to go very well, I was very interested to hear Ed Smith say something that is very much to the contrary - namely that LG's performances in alien conditions, out there "were a factor in his selection."

Of course ES lauded LG's form this year (and indeed last year, per Smith), but one assumes that LG's efforts in the UAE, although nothing to write home about on paper, convinced those that matter that he could potentially do a job, even at international level, on tracks that aren't your typical English seamer. In other words, Lewis isn't *only* being rewarded for an excellent domestic season.

I most certainly agree with Lewis, himself, that adding more control to his bowling, has made all the difference to him.
