Shhhh......it's Yorkshire.

It's strangely quiet on the western front right now, but we do have a slightly important game starting tomorrow !

Here's hoping that Lewis and Jamie are both fighting fit and raring to go.

And that we score lots of runs.

And that the weather is better than it is today.

There is a free entry ticket in the current Somerset Gazette so for the cover price of £1.25 (per copy/per day ) non-members and Yorkshire folk can save a fortune.

Do not forget 10.30 start.

Just been speaking to Dickie Bird what a lovely chap, he said he would love to see Somerset win the championship because they haven't won it before.

The pitch is on the east side of the square.

Lewis Gregory returns to championship action, and Indian Test opener Murali Vijay makes his Somerset debut, in the 13-strong squad to play Yorkshire tomorrow.

Abell (c), Banton, Bartlett, Bess, Brookes, Davey, Davies, Gregory, Groenewald, Hildreth, J. Overton, van der Merwe (who has signed a two-year extension on his contract) and Murali Vijay.

Seamer Matthew Fisher returns after shoulder and thumb injuries, and 22-year-old off-spinner Jack Shutt may make his cc debut among the 14 named by Yorkshire.

Balance, Bresnan, Brook, Coad, Fraine, Fisher, Kohler-Cadmore, Leaning (who has joined Kent for next season), Lyth, Maharaj, Olivier, Stutt, Patterson (c), Tattersall.

So Bird would like to see his team lose in this game then. He will have the whip withdrawn talking like that.

There's another team in this relationship:

Essex squad to face Warwickshire:

Ryan ten Doeschate (Captain), Ben Allison, Aaron Beard, Ravi Bopara, Nick Browne, Varun Chopra, Alastair Cook, Sam Cook, Simon Harmer, Dan Lawrence, Jamie Porter, Tom Westley, Adam Wheater (Wicket-keeper)

No overseas, then.

Not for the rest of the season apparently. I deal fell through and their other 2 options ended up with their countries

I don’t know whether any of you have ever used this . Can’t say I find it any more accurate than any other forecasts. Just change the County with the drop down box.

I hope too many Cooks spoil the Essex broth. Doesn't seem too likely though.

Not the Warwickshire pitch again? (Sm68)

One would also assume very short boundaries to assist with bating bonus points.
This weather around might provide Yorkshire with a conundrum on whether yo insert us or go for a toss of tthe coin to bat first themselves.

Heavy, humid and grey around 30 minutes west of Taunton right now.

On the assumption that conditions are similar at the ground, I don’t imagine batting will be easy this morning. (If indeed play starts on time after all the rain yesterday).

Interesting team selection.

Steve to open with Murali, with Tom A at 3 & James at 4. Very happy with that !

RvdM & Dom both play, as does Josh Davey. No place for TG or Jack B.

SCCC to bat. Hugely important first session.

Come on Somerset !

Boycott is to receive a knighthood in May's resignation honours. The Wimmin are evidently fuming because 20 years ago he assaulted his girlfriend. Strauss is also knighthood.

AGod 10 September, 2019 10:43
Can management please *not* bat Roelof as high as 8 (As listed on Beeb) given that he’s not made a run for 3 years!

In this line-up, I think VDM should be number 11.

I’m quite surprised that Josh was picked ahead of TG, but so be it.

Glad to have the two spinners in the line-up... and hoping that the list of batting order on team will be correct in case of Hildreth... namely that he will - finally - be restored to 4.

Re: Shhhh......it's Yorkshire.
AGod 10 September, 2019 11:08
Well, sounds a poor shot but at least the openers lasted 9 overs.

If the next wkt could also last 9 overs, then that would be a reasonable base.

Lights are on early and Bresnan steaming in. All very tight, great stuff

Re: Shhhh......it's Yorkshire.
Nailsea_Fizz 10 September, 2019 11:38
Well, whether at 3 or 4, he's in early again. Let's see if it makes a difference.

Fingers crossed.

Somerset LaLaLa 10 September, 2019 11:42
There's a joke somewhere about Yorkshire not caring about a toss and Sir Geoff Boycott not caring a toss about his award critics.

Anyway let's hope with no toss, there is no turn today

Re: Shhhh......it's Yorkshire.
Nailsea_Fizz 10 September, 2019 11:49
Oh dear, James is somewhat out of form. Maybe 5 might suit better.

Re: Shhhh......it's Yorkshire.
AGod 10 September, 2019 11:49
Looking a bit dodgy now. My worry is that our seam attack may be rather rusty so that, even if track does a lot (doesn’t really sound as though it is, though?) we might find ourselves struggling to defend any sort of below-par total.

Re: Shhhh......it's Yorkshire.
AGod 10 September, 2019 12:25
However.... paradoxically, given that we don’t seem to be in a great position, we are probably closer to victory (as well as defeat) than Essex are on what, presumably, might be a road at Edgbaston.

Presumably the capital letter and the strange spelling are intended to convey some kind of message?

Re: Shhhh......it's Yorkshire.

Maybe all the money in the pot has been spent and they've only just had a whip round

Re: Shhhh......it's Yorkshire.
Somerset LaLaLa 10 September, 2019 12:51
We need to target one batting bonus point. If it rains a lot at the end of the month, it could be decisive.

Hopefully there is some healthy competition between our bowlers to get them out quickly
