Jack Leach is cleared to play next week.

Let's forget this morning and push on for a lead.

And cheer every time an Essex wicket falls... 38 Essex wickets to go

Unfortunately, this deck isn’t the Edgbaston one, and so one fears that a deficit of 54 will prove more the equivalent of 154, on another deck.

Here here.
Wont be missed & most certainly not welcome.
If there was anyway of stopping the miserable moaners from attending next week and getting any pleasure from our title win then i'm all for it.
Where Where, There There?
You mean Hear Hear surely?
Anyway, what is wrong with people expressing well held and well founded worries and concerns?

I want us to win, but I'm realistic enough to recognise that we are up against it here.

It seems, from the commentary (not watching via the feed) that Josh was unlucky with that decision?

Come on Somerset, let's keep ourselves in this with a good bowling and fielding performance (and come on Surrey too).

Well played Kyle Abbot. Absolutely brilliant figures in case no-one notices that part of this.

Yes fantastic figures and he maintained it accross two or three spells something none of our bowlers managed sadly

7 maidens in a row and 2 wickets...

Re: Hampshire - The Final Countdown
AGod 17 September, 2019 15:19
Both sides were 5 down after 14.1 overs, first time around. Both sides recovered, somewhat, after about the 30 over mark. So the rate of wicket-taking - 3 in that 14.1 over span thus far, has been too slow in this second innings to inspire any confidence that we’re going to shoot Hants out for a total so poor that we’ll stay in contention.

I was about to post that the ball change hasn't worked, then Cove gets him lbw. Have we replaced a new ball with an older one or something?
Come on boys, if we get Dawson cheaply, we are still in this.

Re: Hampshire - The Final Countdown
Somerset LaLaLa 17 September, 2019 15:29
Yes there'll be a big shout for Dawson, hopefully very soon

Time for Hampshire to declare?

A glass half - empty or a glass half - full?
Regardless, both glasses need filling up.

Certain irony here that Nigel Gray, Hampshire`s groundsman for the last 25 years, has produced this green-top nightmare wicket for his very last match at the Ageas Bowl before retirement, after serving up batters` paradise after batters` paradise until Rod Bransgrove suddenly realised this was not the way to attract Test matches.

Perhaps this is his `welcome aboard` gift to Somerset head groundsman Simon Lee, who takes over from Gray at Southampton this winter.

Interesting also to speculate on what role Hampshire assistant coach Alfonso Thomas played in guiding Kyle Abbott where to bowl at the Somerset batsmen.

Second innings century for Eddie Byrom in four-day Seconds friendly against Glo`shire Seconds at Taunton Vale today. Good first innings knock from Tom Lammonby.

AGod 17 September, 2019 16:11
Good news..... for Glamorgan, probably, in the case of Byrom.

BIG SHOUT

Dawson's out !

Re: Hampshire - The Final Countdown
Rod1883 17 September, 2019 16:14
Dawson gone, 40-5, come on boys lets' wrap them up for about 75/80 giving us ~130/140 to chase

Re: Hampshire - The Final Countdown
Rod1883 17 September, 2019 16:54
Come on - they've scored 42 without loss in the last 8 overs. Need a wicket urgently

rodders 17 September, 2019 16:57
Suffice it to say that if 26 plus wickets fell in two days at Taunton there would be hell to pay ! Two standards operating here ( not that a Hampshire points deduction would do us any good but the point remains ). I am still hoping for the miracle but the hope is getting a bit frayed.

That Bloke With The Dog 17 September, 2019 17:07
That was a properly nippy ball from Abell to pin Barker in front of the stumps.

In most sides I reckon our captain would be a 100% all rounder.

Re: Hampshire - The Final Countdown
Nailsea_Fizz 17 September, 2019 17:18
Our back up bowlers not quite doing the business, slightly untidy.

Monkey Butler 17 September, 2019 17:36
Thinking with a level head. I would say they have too many runs already. But you never know...

Re: Hampshire - The Final Countdown
rodders 17 September, 2019 17:46
just odd that certain players can make big scores and the rest fall by the wayside - not even the top orders making the big scores - in the head do you think - something weird anyway - best scorers for both sides not in the top four batsmen so far ???

Re: Hampshire - The Final Countdown
AGod 17 September, 2019 17:50
New ball pitch, Rodders. Some tracks are like that - the new ball has a disproportionate influence on them. The track on which Alf Thomas took 4 in 4 balls vs Sussex at Taunton, was just such a track.. he and Magoffin were unplayable with the new ball, but lower orders were able to make hay.

Re: Hampshire - The Final Countdown
Somerset LaLaLa 17 September, 2019 17:50
We just need someone to bat like Vince and I'm thinking their name begins with B.

So important to get the win in case it rains a lot next week

Re: Hampshire - The Final Countdown
Grizzers 17 September, 2019 17:51
It’s going to be a huge ask tomorrow, but what an opportunity for someone to be a hero.

Given the challenges of batting early in the first session, it might actually work slightly in our favour not to be batting at 10.30 a.m..

Re: Hampshire - The Final Countdown
Rod1883 17 September, 2019 18:07
We will need to find a Dawson AND a Vince type performance from our upper middle order I think if we are to get anything out of this tomorrow.
If we don't we will be 11, 12, or 13 point behind Essex going into the final game I fear

Re: Hampshire - The Final Countdown
Botham 17 September, 2019 18:23
We could start with a rare decent performance from an overseas batsman, but first we need to get rid of current batsmen.

Re: Hampshire - The Final Countdown
Grizzers 17 September, 2019 18:25
Feeling a bit deflated, especially as Essex have had a dream day.

Forecast for next week is currently lousy. Heavy cloud cover and persistent light rain.

What a pain.

Come on Mr weatherman, there’s still time to change your tune.

And, if there will be only a few days play next week with Essex putting us in, will our batting muster enough bonus points compared to their bowling points?
