Sad to read the news that Bob Willis died today.

Although I saw him many times at Taunton, my best memory of his greatness was standing outside a tv shop watching England win at Headingley in 1981

A great shame and a shock.

Will always remember his 1981 exploits, alongside ITB.

Bob Willis was famous, apart from his bowling, for his love of Bob Dylan's music, and taking on the name Dylan by deed poll. Less well known was his love of the music of Brahms, Wagner and 'classical' music in general.

A former percussionist of the CBSO (City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra) has tweeted that Bob was at every concert they gave in London. We saw him a couple of times at the Festival Hall at concerts including music by Brahms.

He was clearly quite a complex character and not a bad old bowler either.

Bob Willis has died.

He made me late back to work one day in 1981 when I went home for lunch on the last day of the Headingkye Test and switched the tv on ...
