From the Glamorgan CCC website...
You have to laugh....The real reason for change...
So that Supporters can watch the Welsh Fire in the 16.4

Glamorgan’s Royal London Cup match against Somerset at Taunton has been rescheduled and will now be played on Wednesday, 29th July.

The game was originally arranged to take place the previous day however has been reorganised to avoid a fixture clash with Welsh Fire.

Supporters will now be able to watch Welsh Fire in action at Sophia Gardens against Birmingham Phoenix on Tuesday, 28th July and attend the 50-over match against Somerset at The Cooper Associates County Ground the following day.

Wouldn’t it be nice to fill the county ground for the Glamotgan game ,and get a larger crowd watching our second string rather thanSteve Smith.Maybe we should all save our free passes for that game especially people we know with children.

In an interview in South Africa today, Dom Bess has indicated that it is essential that he plays first team cricket this summer if he is to make the England party for next winter`s five-Test tour of India..

Incidentally, he is the first England spinner since his current ECB boss, Ashley Giles, 17 years ago to bowl more than 60 overs in a Test at an average below 2.

Re: 2020 SOMERSET RELATED NEWS
AGod 09 January, 2020 15:30
Well... maybe, though he seems to be playing at the moment, even though he wasn’t first-choice all summer for Somerset.

In truth, if he is picked for SL and does well then that’s liable to go a long way to booking him a place for India.

Even if he finds a new County, he won’t get a ton of bowling, early-season, anyway. Later in the season he might, but then he’d likely be picked, later in the season for us, as one of two spinners (or as SCCC first choice if Jack is with England, anyway).

Still think that, having been sanctioned for uneven bounce we won’t be taking any chances with starting tracks *either* too damp or too dry. We’ll have to try to produce good cricket wickets - with a little bit (but no more than a little bit) in it for everyone. And on those much better batting tracks there’s a case for two spinners anyway - and all the more so if the likes of Jamie and Jack B are unfit, Cove taken by England etc

Jack Leach will return home from England's tour of South Africa following the left-arm spinner's struggle with illness.

Not the news we want to hear, I wish him speedy recovery, but he does seem to have more than his fair share of setbacks in his career .

Hope Jack recovers well at home in time for the Sri Lanka tour but slightly surprised this hasn’t happened sooner

Good to see the Big Bash making a Big Thiing out of 'unearthing' Tom Banton as a star short form batsman!!

Didn't sort of understand that he'd already been 'unearthed' and that is why he was playing in their provincial 'winter' tournament.

Where did they think they'd found him? Under a rock playing Grade cricket?

See Lewis Gregory is captain of the Lions tour to Australia in both red and white ball formats with Tom Abell his vice captain in the white ball games as he wasn’t picked for the red ball squad. Congratulations to both of them

Get well soon Jack.

He is part of the England Lions squad which departs for Australia next week.

In a brilliant article Dom Bess on cricinfo today, George Dobell sums it up to perfection:

`Not for the first time, the thought occurred that Somerset deserve credit not censure for their spin-friendly pitches.`

Re: 2020 SOMERSET RELATED NEWS
Farmer White 19 January, 2020 10:27
A thought occured to me as well.

In addition to England's current first and second choice spinners having been produced on Taunton's pitches, three pace bowlers who learned their trade on the same pitches at the same time are in the England Lions squad, two as full members and one to 'train with the squad, but who would be eligible for selection. It hasn't been so easy for batsmen, but neither has it at Chelmsford where bowlers have also thrived. In terms of producing an effective cricket team perhaps it should be noted that in 2019 Essex and Somerset produced 47% of all the wins in the eight-team County Championship first division.

I made this point on Twitter yesterday and got 28 agreements to that statement in a very short period of time. The powers don't have anything like a 'macro' view of the world they control cricket in

On the BBC Cricket chat during the Test today, Peter Moores was very complimentary about Taunton pitches, the development of Bess, Leach and other young players coming through, and the way Somerset are run. It was all aided by having a strong advocate of the county game as the moderator in Kevin Howells. I very much get the impression that a lot around the counties appreciate the way Somerset go about things, on and off the field, and that it's the suits in offices in London who aren't with the programme.

It's a shame then that the ECB have a different agenda where spin, 4 day cricket and provincial county setups are of little importance in their Grand Scheme for the 'first class' game in the 2020s

Success for another Somerset spinner in South Africa today.

Left-arm spinner Lewis Goldsworthy, who is also a useful batter, was easily the most economical bowler, with 2-28 from his 10 overs, as England kept West Indies to 267-7 in their 50 overs in the Under 19s World Cup at Kimberley.

Edit: I see Grockle has started a separate Under 19s World Cup thread. Good idea with three Somerset Academy players in the England squad.
