I guess they felt they needed some extra pace to make up for the loss of Jofra Archer.

That's a new one on me and The Bears as well.

A glass half - empty or a glass half - full?
Regardless, both glasses need filling up.

Which division 1 counties are in need of a spinner?
Lesser fashionable counties are an unlikely move i'd suggest.

Yorks - Maharaj & Ashwin
Lancs - Parkinson
Surrey - Virdi
Essex - Harmer
Hamps - Lyon Dawson Crane
Somerset - Leach
Warwicks - Jeetan, 40 in May
Kent - ?
Northants - ?
Glos - ?

Maharaj and Ashwin signings not permanent, surely?

In which case, if we're talking about Dom leaving at the end of the season?

Then Yorkshire are, surely, still firmly in the race?

Personally, I still think that Somerset will have to go with good *batting* tracks at home next season, what with a further sanction hanging over us.

And I still maintain that, unless weather conditions are terrible (low, glowering skies), then it is every bit as valid to play two spinners on a flat track, as it is on a turning one. It is an abject failure of imagination for English coaches not to appreciate this.

With a bit of skill and imagination, we could set up a "shoot out," for one England spinners' place (in domestic conditions), between two talented young spinners .. which - in the very short term of the 2020 season, could only benefit SCCC...

We have 6 rather useful.seam bowlers too.
2 test seamers, 3 lions, a Scot.

How will.they feel if we play 2 spinners in apr & may?
It makes no sense.

Sadly it's a "nice" problem to have which may just not have a solution.

We have 8 top quality division 1 standard bowlers.
With RVDM Aldridge Gilchrist Lammonby all in the wings.
It may just be there isnt a way of keeping all happy.

Over to Jason & Sarge.....

How many of those 6 seamers are likely to be fit to start the season, WSM, 4?

Our seam bowling resources seem liable to be thinner on the ground with Craig under central control and TG having left. That’s minus 2, versus only Philander in.

Are Jamie and Jack B really going to be fit to start the season?

Yes Jamie is fully fit.
Has been bowling since before Xmas and has been added to the England lions tour down under departing on Wednesday, that keen England are to get him involved.

Brooks i am less sure.
Was seen on social media last week in a big grey moon boot. Presume still to do with the injury which kept him out last month of the season?
Seen nothing of him having bowled a ball since August.

I think Brooks did his achilles in, didn't he?

That's not usually a swift recovery. In which case, I'm not surprised if he's still in some form of boot.

Jack Brooks tweeted last week he was looking for a club side to play for this season, is he not expecting to play much for SCCC this year?

Surely most of them have club side attachments - some play more than others for those clubs, but I wouldn't take it as a sign of anything in particular.

Tom Westley new captain of Essex for Championship and 50 over cup. He averaged 36 last season in the Champo with Cook, Bopara and Lawrence all higher. I would like to see a Somerset player up there in the averages this season or is that wishful thinking?

Well, I think you'll find our home tracks notably more conducive to batsmen piling up runs....

.. Therefore, I'd say that, if we don't have batsmen appearing towards the top of the national averages, then we'll have some pretty major problems (if we can't score even on flat decks!)
