The sorry tale of the Hundred:

So, relative to the reported assurances given by a certain Mr C Graves, were Somerset betrayed, or just naive ?

Perhaps our masters at Taunton heard what they wanted to hear. Maybe they wanted to believe that Mr Graves was going to let them be one of the big boys bullying everyone else, and read his letter accordingly.

It's all a bit grubby. Including the people supposedly representing Somerset not telling the membership what was going on and using other explanations to justify the non consultation and the decisions made. Can't say I'm surprised though unfortunately.

Thanks for sharing, Grizzers - a very insightful article.

When the leader of an organisation (or, in the case of politics, of a country) and the coterie around him (it’s usually a man) goes hell for leather for a particular policy and will brook no argument, it is very difficult for others, who are nominally decision-makers to oppose effectively, because there is no mechanism for them to discuss and coalesce around a different policy. Hence an organisation/country can commit itself to a course of action even if most of those who are nominally decision-makers are privately opposed to it.

Can we start a petition to replace Harrison with Richard Gould?

Perhaps the incoming Chairman will take a fresh look and row back from the disastrous march towards the Hundred (and the inevitable consequence of the destruction of county cricket as we know it).

Hope you are right about the incoming chairman Shaun. Gould would be a safe pair of hands too.

I'll be surprised if the 'Hundred' setup has had the sense to leave 'wiggle ' room in the agreements made.
