Somerset Head Coach Jason Kerr has named the following squad:

Tom Abell
Lewis Gregory
Craig Overton
Dom Bess
Jack Leach
George Bartlett
Ben Green
Tom Lammonby
Josh Davey
Eddie Byrom
Steve Davies
Jack Brooks
Lewis Goldsworthy

10.30 start

I foresee a problem in the slips.

No Jamie Overton, obviously. No James Hildreth, obviously. VDM dropped.

So we only really have Cove and LG left as obvious candidates for the slips? And that means we have only one known, decent slip when either one of those guys is bowling.

This is potentially very significant because our slip catching has been every bit the equal of our pace bowling for some time. Personally, with the spinner unlikely to do much bowling anyway, I would have been tempted to retain VDM for his catching.

Lewis Goldsworthy is in the squad and will, presumably, play If Ben Green fails a fitness test.

Leachy and Dom both in squad.

I would select the following XI:

Byrom, Lammonby, Abell c, Bartlett, Davies wk, Gregory, C Overton, Bess, Leach, Davey, Brooks

Gregory, Bess and Leach for Hildreth, van der Merwe and Jamie Overton.

Worcestershire choosing from 12:

Leach (c), Libby, Fell, Wessels, Haynes, D`Oliveira, Mitchell, Cox, Barnard, Pennington, Tongue, Morris.

I'd expect Goldsworthy and Bess to miss out myself, unless the pitch is a bunsen.

II see unless you are a Somerset Hero you can't get live streaming.....

Re: Pear Pressure
AGod 06 September, 2020 09:02
Utterly stupid decision by Worcs.

And I mean commercially stupid.

It would make much more sense to simply charge for access to the stream, if they really must.

But what the hell is the point of restricting access *without* charging?

Re: Pear Pressure
Somerset LaLaLa 06 September, 2020 09:05
Also on the radar,

Lancashire v Derbyshire, Aigburth (come on Des, you know what Lancs have to do)
Yorkshire v Leicestershire, Headingley (24 pointer?)
Essex v Middlesex, Chelmsford (Essex unbeaten for a long time and full squad)
Surrey v Sussex, Oval (Surrey start their season?)

Re: Pear Pressure
AGod 06 September, 2020 09:11
Surrey vs Sussex is utterly irrelevant.

I doubt Middx have any chance at Chelmsford. One imagines that Harmer will destroy them.

Re: Pear Pressure
hantssabre 06 September, 2020 09:31
I’ve emailed WCCC about the non access to the stream but don’t expect to get any response!

Re: Pear Pressure
Roger ivanhoe 06 September, 2020 09:40
I assume that Worcester do not operate an open stream, and therefore only available to its members.

Any Heros had their email instructions from SCCC yet, nothing in my box, no doubt hassle with Worcester next step.

Re: Pear Pressure
hantssabre 06 September, 2020 09:52
Hope there aren’t any issues with bad light in this match as there aren’t any floodlights to turn on!

Re: Pear Pressure
Rod1883 06 September, 2020 10:02
I see on the BBC that all games start at 10.30, except at the Oval which is shown as 12.00. Presumably that is because they have lights and will avoid any dew related issues with a later start? Seems though that it isn't a level playing field for all?

Re: Pear Pressure
hantssabre 06 September, 2020 10:04
I think the Oval start time is due to the T20 match against Middlesex yesterday being played in the evening

Re: Pear Pressure
hantssabre 06 September, 2020 10:07
Somerset win toss and bat. Bess and Goldsworthy left out

Re: Pear Pressure
Somerset LaLaLa 06 September, 2020 10:10
Somerset win toss and will bat, according to BBC

Re: Pear Pressure
hantssabre 06 September, 2020 10:13
At least the Lancs v Derby game is delayed with a wet outfield

Re: Pear Pressure
Streeter 06 September, 2020 10:27
If any non-tech savy members/heros were to post their stream instruction email by mistake, I'm sure it would be completely understandable. Cut and paste can be confusing at the best of times.
I'm intrigued as to their(Worcs) reasons for the restricted access. In the present situation it seems a little bizarre.

A tweet on the Somerset website.

LIVE STREAMING Sep 6th, 10:07
A live stream will be available courtesy of Worcestershire CCC, but will only be available to Somerset Members. This is a decision taken by Worcestershire CCC. All current Somerset Members should have received an email with details of joining, but please contact Worcestershire if any issues arise. Please do not contact Somerset County Cricket Club regarding this as live streaming coverage is the responsibility of the home team.

I haven't received any email!

Re: Pear Pressure
AGod 06 September, 2020 10:31
Unless Worcs are utter idiots, Streeter, such a ruse won't work - it would give access to only one person at one time!

There seems to be no radio commentary, as yet, either?

Re: Pear Pressure
hantssabre 06 September, 2020 10:32
Perhaps Worcestershire are still using dial up so can’t allow many viewers all at once! After all, they don’t have floodlights and use their ground as a Lido in the winter!

Re: Pear Pressure
hantssabre 06 September, 2020 10:33
It’s on 5 live sports extra at present

Re: Pear Pressure
Tumbles 06 September, 2020 10:36
No stream is utterly pathetic, given the situation of Covid etc.

Re: Pear Pressure
AGod 06 September, 2020 10:37
Sounds like we've chosen to bat first on a rather fresh pitch.

The euphemism "brave," is being used for the decision.

Don't really understand it myself, especially with a weakened batting line-up... and with Cove and Davey having been in *dreamy* form with the new ball.

Do we think, perhaps, that it will turn for Leachy later?

If not, a curious decision, very possibly.

Roger and Mike - I received instructions via email at 12.30 yesterday and via WhatsApp this morning.

Re: Pear Pressure

Middlesex 2 down against Essex already

Re: Pear Pressure
AGod 06 September, 2020 10:44
Middx already rushing, headlong, to an inevitable and overwhelming defeat.
