I trust all will agree that this match deserved a thread of its own.

A bit feeble of me, I know, but I've tried five sites and have yet to find one that specifies the date of the match.

Right, how do we get to watch it live? Hire a hot-air balloon or blimp for five days and keep it tethered with a good view point? Any takers?

Failing that, I'll watch the livestream though I find it very stressful!

@sfw supporting Somerset is always stressful, have you only just noticed??

What would the great Bob Willis have made of his trophy final not been shown on tv? Imagine his demeanour as at Headingley 1981, eyes glazed with massive intensity bowling fearsomely at the tv producers

Re: B W Trophy Final

I think I find it more stressful watching on TV/livestream than live, when you actually have a 'feel' for the game. I even found the RLODC final last year quite stressful on TV, even though it was very much a done deal for a lot of the game.

My favourite live game - or one of my favourites - was Sussex vs Somerset in the 83 Nat West Trophy. All over early in the afternoon giving me time for a dip in the sea. Result!

Exactly one of the main reasons I detest watching any sport on TV, I'd 100% rather be at the game than watching on TV
Sky have confirmed that they are covering IPL / Womens cricket on the same day.
In addition SKY have said that due to two stands being knocked down at Lords there is insufficient space to install the required cameras, so unless BBC take it on the red button we are going to be struggling for coverage

Why have the final at Lords in the first place if it’s a building site. Be much better to have it at the ground of the highest place team i.e. Taunton!

But we'd probably be given a points deduction and lose before the start of the game! Not that I'm at all cynical, you understand...

The E C B aren't the only ones who 'have it in' for Somerset, because some posters consider that the whole World is a massive conspiracy against Somerset County Cricket Club.

Glad that I don't think that way.

Confirmation that Tom Banton won't be available for the final:

Bess to open the batting, Mart!? Why!?

Re: B W Trophy Final
AGod 11 September, 2020 21:21
I don’t think the club will have any real choice or options for the final which is why we have to pray nobody is injured in the thrilling T20 comp.

Hildreth is all but sure to be out. Banton’s away. Leach and Bess likely to be at the England training camp.

So team will be

Green
Lammonby
Abell
Bartlett
Byrom
Davies
LG
Cove
VDM (though he should bat 11)
Scotland’s finest
Brooks

There’s nobody else, with any experience at all, who has a red ball contract and who figures to be available.

Who would you name as the best XI of the group stage? Pick a team from all counties, then see the link:

Re: B W Trophy Final

What training camp!?

There is nothing scheduled for the end of September, why would there be? England are not scheduled to play red ball again until January at the earliest.

There was talk of a red ball camp in UAE maybe in December but no sense in an end of September one (which clashs with the IPL)

Jack & Dom will be available for the final.

I would expect the exact same team as Worcs away for the final personally. Hildy for Green if fit but nothing suggests he is likely to be in 10 days time.

I thought the red ball camp was being set up as a way for Rashid to get some red ball practice prior to convincing him that he wants to return to Test cricket

Re: B W Trophy Final
AGod 12 September, 2020 12:34
Somebody reported on here that said camp may clash with Lord's. If not, then good (although England should obviously be wanting Leachy to get as much bowling in as possible, after so long without bowling).

There is no scheduled red ball cricket until January 2021 at the earliest currently.
A September training camp makes absolutely no sense & isn't a thing as far as i'm aware, FAKE NEWS 🙈

Re: B W Trophy Final
Somerset LaLaLa 12 September, 2020 13:44
Josh has taken 24 wickets and surely very close to being on the list Bobstan. As a bowler his performance in the BWT was better than Jamie imo, but not as good with the bat. I would have thought Jamie's bowling average was lower than 17, but being with Surrey ruined that

Josh for Jamie in my XI - and if you're going to pick a Somerset bowler for his batting, I'd suggest Jack B deserves it even more than Jamie! (More consistent).
Tom L most unlucky, as they say - to be honest I haven't been following the other groups all that closely, but the stats for the other batsmen are pretty impressive so not getting too partisan on that one. Libby certainly worth a place.
No nominated captain - presumably that would be Tom A?
Harmer will be hoping that they play at Chelmsford.

Re: B W Trophy Final
mikeindex 12 September, 2020 14:41
Assuming Dom and Jack L are both available for the final I would quite like to see them both in.
On the other hand, our pace attack have been performing so splendidly that it's hard to leave any of them out.
On the third hand, when you have Abell AND Lammonby as joint-fourth seamer, do you need more than three specialists?
On the fourth hand, does it make sense to leave out Brooks for Green, Byrom or even, if fit, Hildreth, when he's averaging more than twice as many as any of them with the bat?
I am quite intrigued by Mart's idea of opening with Bess so as to fit all the bowlers in. I would not rule it out by any means.
No idea how Lord's is playing this season as there has not been a single day's cricket played there so far - I had hoped to come up with some idea of whether it seemed to be favouring pace or spin.
Oh well.
My XI, if I must:
Davies
Lammonby
Abell
Hildreth (If fit)/Bartlett
Bartlett/Green (if Hildreth unfit)
Gregory
Bess
Overton
Brooks
Davey
Leach
Maybe Green to open and Davies 5 if Hildreth unfit. Some flexibility in positions 6-11.
Yes I know Josh and Jack L are better batsmen technically than Jack B, but the way he's going lately let's get him in a bit earlier and while there's still some solidity behind him.

Re: B W Trophy Final
That Bloke With The Dog 12 September, 2020 18:34
Is it possible Brooks might feel constrained by responsibility if promoted? As things stand, he's the best number 11 in the country, because he knows he has nothing to lose and can bat accordingly.

Re: B W Trophy Final
AGod 12 September, 2020 20:32
On the basis of stats alone of batting average 37 and bowling 17, then one can’t blame them for putting Jamie in. In putting him in at 7, they presumably felt he had the best all-round figures and so have included him in that capacity. Cove obviously deserves his place. Tim Murtagh put up very good numbers in a group in which every team, bar *pathetic* Surrey, is arguably better than the other teams in our group.

Re: B W Trophy Final
Somerset LaLaLa 12 September, 2020 21:05
Yes, for no 11's Brooks has done very well and gets more runs than Porter. Murtagh has taken a lot of wickets and Crane economical as well. England's best no 11 is of course Jack Leach

Re: B W Trophy Final
Grizzers 12 September, 2020 21:50
I'd be open to Dom opening as well. Unconventional, but Eddie has hardly been setting the world on fire. (I think his contract is up at the end of the season ?).
