Highest score of 29 in eight matches, about time he earn't his keep! I'm sure he will when Australia play Pakistan in T20s next week!

Re: Warner

Four negative posts I have written about David Warner are:

On 19th June on the Dexter awarded cap thread: "he has yet to score more than 25 in five innings as his style of play is more to play big shots than to make big scores. If Warner is to receive his cap then it will surely be at one of the matches at Uxbridge on the second weekend of July, before which I think he has another five innings to prove that he has earned it"

On 20th June on the Dexter awarded cap thread: "I personally haven't seem him do much yet"

On 20th June on the Dexter awarded cap thread: "I don't see why he should get a cap."

Yesterday on the Half Way through Season thoughts thread: "His style of play - which is to play big shots as opposed to playing big innings - does not really endear him to my dad and I. He has made 140 runs in seven innings (including his 17 today), so I hope he fires soon"

It is a shame that he hasn't fulfilled his full potential for Middlesex yet.

David Warner is a professional peripatetic TWENTY TWENTY cricketer.
He doesn't pretend to be anything else.He plays his way ,when it comes off it's marvellous when he doesn't its pants.
You pays your money(MCCC that is ) and you take a chance.
I'm certain there will be a couple of biggies just around the corner.
His fielding is a joy to watch( if that makes the doubters feel any better)

Good point about the fielding.Someone like Newman needs to average at least 5 runs an innings more to match Warner's overall contribution.

Re: Warner
Jonathan Winsky 28 June, 2010 15:17
David Warner has a habit of aiming to run batsmen out with a direct hit only for the ball to go past the stumps for four overthrows. I suppose the issue there is not so much with Warner's ambition to run batsmen out but with the lack of fielders backing-up.

HR if you'd seen the catch Newman took @ Bristol in the T20 you might reapraise his fielding , this being only the most recent of a few good catches he has made , off the Sorry bashing horse now my friend , he's one of us now .

Re: Warner
Haringey Racer 30 June, 2010 16:54
Swallows and summers, Diamond. Overall he's a liability in the field.

Re: Warner
razorlightcrusader 30 June, 2010 18:01
Nothing to do with Surrey bashing - Newman is a very poor fielder, always has been.

Warner is a very good fielder. Would like some more runs out of him though

Re: Warner
Mr. Trellis 30 June, 2010 21:19
I think Warner should spend an over "having a look" rather than trying to hit the cover off the ball from ball one.

Re: Warner
Jonathan Winsky 02 July, 2010 20:13
"Lots of starts but hasn't gone on" is what Nick Knight says of David Warner.

He made 28 off 23 with three fours and a six v Sussex tonight, but we could do with more.

He won't be playing v Somerset on Sunday.

He will be unable to play on Sunday as Australia play Pakistan in Twenty20 internationals at Edgbaston on Monday and Tuesday.

Re: Warner
Brian Wilson 03 July, 2010 12:15
So does that mean we have seen the last of him? If so, what a waste of money since I assume he was on seriously big bucks.

Re: Warner
Jonathan Winsky 03 July, 2010 12:38
For some reason he has been named in our squad for tomorrow, although I thought he couldn't play.

As far as I am aware, he will be able to play in our last five Twenty20 group matches starting with Thursday's match v Surrey at The Oval. I don't know whether there is a possibility of him returning for the knockout matches were we to qualify.

If he doesn't play tomorrow then it would have been nice for Jackson Thompson to play, but he isn't in the squad.

If we feel he isn't performing all that well, why have we named a stand at Lord's after him> (Sm100)

Re: Warner
Jonathan Winsky 03 July, 2010 19:11
It has been known for ages that David Warner was unlikely to play tomorrow as the article announcing his signing said "he will be available for Middlesex’s entire FP t20 campaign, with the exception of just a couple of games, when he will be required to play for Australia in their two international t20 matches against Pakistan in early July", although I found it a bit lazy to simply say "just a couple of games" without detailing what those games are.

My initial guess - on the basis that the word 'couple' means 'two' - was that he would definitely miss tomorrow's match, plus one out of yesterday's match and Thursday's match at The Oval.

However, what happened was that - along with all the other players contracted by Cricket Australia who were coming over for the Twenty20 Cup - he arrived in the country two matches into Middlesex's campaign, played yesterday, is in the squad for tomorrow and - as far as I am aware - there is no reason at all why he will not play on Thursday.

On the 20/20 team thread, I wrote about my initial guess, Seaxe_Man wrote "as there are no direct clashes datewise, can't see with a bit of ingenuity, why Rocket cannot play all 16 games", Short Third Will wrote that he would miss the first two matches, calum10 wrote that he had received an e-mail from Vinny Codrington saying that he will miss tomorrow's match and lower pavilion summed it up perfectly by writing "If above information is correct. He will miss our first 2 home games at Lords against Sussex and Somerset, and the away game at Somerset".

If he plays tomorrow then he would have played in "Middlesex’s entire FP t20 campaign, with the exception of just a couple of games", with those couple of games being the first two.

I did not mean to get people speculating that he had been dropped or has played his last match for Middlesex.

Now has 188 runs in 11 T20 innings at 17.09.

Simply not good enough.

Top score still 29. Very disappointing that he has not even scored his shirt number yet.

Re: Warner

I really must come to our club's defense on this one.

Warner is a 20/20 specialist and the club should be congratulated in getting him in the first place.

However, no player comes with a guarantee of success stamped on his forehead. So far it has not really worked out playing wise as he may have hoped.

We can all look clever with the benefit of hindsight.

The fact is, we have attracted big crowds for our home 20/20 games and have I am sure better attendances than last season.Hopefully we have made some much needed money.

The club should be congratulated on that at least.

LP... I usually agree with you but on the warner front I have to disagree...

I know he hasn't played well and he is very upset about that (as those near to the changing rooms at Uxbridge will have heard snigger, snigger!)

But if the right consultations had taken place I don't think we would have signed him, I think it was more of a panic because of all the people we wanted and failed to sign what with one thing or another.... remember he was about 5th choice....

BTW, if he asks ANY of you who I am, please don't tell him...

But what I do agree with is the swollen crowds, they seem to have been at Uxbridge in abundance on Saturday especially.

Kimmy
